Kalispell, MT | 3 Review(s)

Open minded spirit seeking martial artist from Montana. I don't have a hard time tolerating different world views, except intolerance. I've lived in Montana my whole life and am looking for a change of scenery, someplace with more diverse culture.

Polson, MT

Hokey Pokey - 1/21/2008
Polson is a small, howdy-do kinda town. Significant crime is almost unheard of, it's mostly just the occasional punk breaks into his grandpa's house and steals $500. The most common "violent crime" is probably drunk driving, because out of boredom and lack of work, lots of people turn to drugs and alcohol to entertain themselves. Very little for work in the town, a small community college in pablo right next door, and quite boring, really. Great to raise a family, but only if you have a secure job lined up or a good plan for one. The plus side is gorgeous wilderness everywhere, you can drive 100 miles on back roads if you please. It's population has exploded in recent years, and I don't know if this site has an accurate reading on that. Lots of folks from southern states (CA, AZ, NM) moving here and building "summer homes". The small town culture is starting to turn into wannabe city culture, but it's just too tiny and geographically inconvenient to expand too far.

Amen. Same thing happened in Polson and Kalispell. Seems everyone needs a second home, and it has to be in Montana.

Kalispell, MT

Ho-hum - 1/9/2008
Kalispell is a safe, easy going place to raise a family. Be prepared to compete for your wages and your home though, as the job market and cost of living are unfavorably skewed. Logging and construction are big industries here, as well as tourism, but the economy comes to a screeching halt during the winter. There isn't much for a social scene, and the public is fairly close minded. All in all, it's boring and a bit depressing here, but the wilderness is nice. It's just hard to make friends here.
