re: Decatur - Pros/Cons - 2/10/2008 -
12/27/2010Staley/Tate and Lyle certainly supports the stink in Decatur. Another pro of Decatur is how friendly people are. I work in Decatur a lot and deal with very friendly people each time I'm in town.

Great place to live, great place to raise your fam -
2/22/20099,000 feet above sea level nestled in the Sacramento Mountains lies beautiful Cloudcroft, NM. Like any small town everyone knows everything about you. Cloudcroft boasts great schools, friendly people and possibly the most beautiful setting of any city in New Mexico. I graduated high school from Cloudcroft and after living in Silver City for nine years I can tell you, it's about as good as it gets in NM. Shopping for general necessities can get expensive if you shop in the village. There is definately a downside to driving 17 miles to Alamo or an hours and a half to Cruces or El Paso for shopping. But for my money, Cloudcroft is the best town in the state of New Mexico to call home..I'm proud to be from there.

Not the place to raise a family... -
2/22/2009I lived in Silver City from 2nd grade through my sophomore year in high school. Yes, Silver has arguably the greatest geographic location of any city in the state..The town is great for hiking, biking, bouldering, camping, fishing, just about anything for an outdoor enthusiast. However, it has a dark underbelly of crime, gangs, drugs and corrupt government. I have a lot of fond memories of being really young in Silver. We lived on 5 acres when I was in elementary school and it was great. I have watched so many people's lives be sucked into the troubles of Silver..maybe it is a great place to retire, where you don't have to be involved in it's problems but, I would never ever recommend raising a family in this town.

re: What Causes the Pollution - 2/3/2007 -
2/22/2009Silver City is one of the largest copper mining hubs in the southwest. On your way into Silver from Deming you go through Hurley which has large copper smelters. El Paso is three hours away and given the variations in elevation there's no way pollution could make its way to Silver City from there.
