Living poor in a rich town or rich in a poor town? - 1/29/2016
In 1992 I found the most beautiful 20 acres in the US...I was blessed with a spring well of pure water....My horses were born on the land..I just had no idea how difficult it would be for someone like myself from South Florida to fit in as I tried to be a part of a low income community...I built my beautiful home and as a writer, I set out to live a dream..Unfortunately,there is a mindset that goes along with a low income area..The plumber flooded our newly built home and we lost all recordings, pictures, a lifetime of work..Then a girl spit in my face followed by a traffic ticket turned into a cop who would lie in front of the Judge..Thank God I won that one...At least the middle school and Sebring High School had on their team, a fabulous group of well educated teachers that taught our child the best education resulting in being a Salutatorian..So late 90's ..early 2000, he got an amazing education..but as the smarter students dwindled..so the teachers transferred, still great though if your child can fit in....I am forever grateful!.My son will never come back...I find the wildlife picturesque, like nothing I had seen in Central Florida..But all has changed in this area since 2003..With the annual income of 25,000 a year, I find there isn't any place to go or eat except for Red Lobster..I keep to myself as I just don't find the social scene invigorating..No one of equal talent or ambition..I also never thought about getting sick! As the doctors put it themselves.."wrong town for you to get sick and in need of a specialist!"..I still do have 3 or 4 doctors that are great and still left in town..but I only saw really qualified doctors and through the years..one by one..they left town for the coast...can't earn a good enough living...I have a saying.."small town is no excuse for a small mind".Small businesses are rare to survive..I don't trust the young crowd to handle my food..and as a self made..always educating myself..I am a line wolf in this town..I don't trust ignorance..a person to pass judgement on me that hasn't a clue what's going on in the big world..and, a lot of people who just care about themselves with a lack of moral code...If you don't ever need anyone, or count on not getting sick, or don't require a good veterinarian, and can skip proper customer service, handling your food in restaurants, then maybe you might like it here..The few professionals still here are great people and they are an asset, I just would have built a cheaper house, not had horses, and definately would have kept my options open to move instead of thinking I would live a long life here forever..If only someone had written a paragraph like this!
