re: information about aberdeen . schools, food, ho Posted On: 4/5/2013 10:12:31 AM
According to city-data.com, the cost of living in Aberdeen is 80.4% of the national average. The cost of living in Ravenna, OH is 96.6% of the national average. So, generally speaking, it will be 16% cheaper to live in Aberdeen. If a gallon of milk nationwide averages $3.00 per gallon, that gallon of milk will cost approximately $2.90 in Ravenna; in Aberdeen, it will cost $2.40. Here is the phone number for Country Village Estates: Phone: (605) 229-4343. Call them - I'm sure they will be glad to inform you of cost of lot rent. I would recommend you go to city-data.com for a lot of other statistics on Aberdeen, SD and their are plenty of websites that will give you estimates on car insurance, etc. You can also access the State of South Dakota's website online which will give you information on how much car tags cost. Ditto the same on the City of Aberdeen's website which should give you some information regarding your dog. I don't live in Aberdeen myself but I am a librarian and I just can't resist trying to help someone who needs information. Hope this helps as I see you haven't had any other responses.
The ArmPit of Florida! Posted On: 2/18/2011 6:52:43 AM
Tallahassee is the armpit of Florida! Traffic is horrendous, crime is off the charts, the weather sucks and the schools are the absolute worst! Jobs are crappy - with so many college students/graduates running around town willing for work for minimum wage, employers don't pay more than that to fill even professional positions. Your other choice for employment is to work for the State of Florida and get paid in sunshine. It's nice to have a sunny day but it sure doesn't put food on the table, ya' know what I mean? If you love living in a mosquito-infested swampland next door to white trash living in run-down shacks then come to Tallahassee!
re: Relocating to Chattanooga - 6/30/2006 Posted On: 9/18/2009 12:11:20 PM
I worked in a school system in this city for three years and although I often had people tell me Chatta. was a good place for bi-racial families, I found that not to be the reality. Chattanooga has A LOT OF racial problems, especially in the school system, and the city neighborhoods are not racially diverse. The minority races live on "their" side of town and all the white people live on "their" side of town. The schools are AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL - overcrowded, decrepit buildings, horrible lack of teaching materials anad teachers with any teaching skills, etc. and a wide disparity of learning levels in every classroom. As for being "scenic", if you call two hills where the rich folk live in order avoid living with those in the "ditch" (read that as poor white trash) between them, "scenic" then you are welcome to it. The cost of living is high and the traffic is horrific. Crime is sky high - murders, rapes, etc. dominate the local news. I moved my bi-racial family to Buena Vista, CO and we are very happy here. You might consider this as a place to move.

re: Crime is Not Evenly Spread Out Here - 9/24/200 Posted On: 9/9/2008 5:05:06 PM
Rick Van Wieren must be in the real estate business! He is not giving an accurate portrait of CS. Gangs and other crime are rampant in this city, schools are overcrowded and severely lacking in quality of education. Traffic is awful and good luck getting to know your neighbors - they will only be there for a year or two before the military transfers them. The cost of housing is sky high whether you are renting or buying, salaries are extremely low due to so many military retirees and spouses willing to work for peanuts. The big companies employing lots of people (i.e. Hewlett Packard) are pulling out of here faster than you can snap your fingers leaving unemployment and poverty behind. The city is very conservative and there's a lot of mega-churches and religion everywhere. The view is great, the climate is to die for - but neither one of those things puts food on the table and keeps your family safe.
Great Place to live if... Posted On: 9/9/2008 4:51:47 PM
... you like heat, humidity, swamps, mosquitos and fleas, and an uneducated population. The schools are awful, awful, awful and there is nothing here. No real "town" - it's all out by the interstate and it's just one chain store after the other. It's 70 miles to Tallahasse, 50 miles to Panama City and 35 miles to Dothan. Be prepared to drive if you want any quality of life at all. Oh, yeah, get religion before you get here (the Baptist kind is preferred) or you won't get invited to anything. We got transferred here by my husband's job with the federal prison system and after 14 months, I fled with the kids and my husband got transferred as soon as he could. This is the most abysmal place we've ever had to endure.
