Best Kept Secret West of Denver. -
7/25/2011I moved to Atwood, KS from Denver almost 12 years ago. It was the best move I could have ever made. Columbine had occured in Denver and my children were little and they would search my children for 'weapons' prior to entering the school. They were in 3rd and 4th grade at the time. I knew it was time to GO!. I just didnt know where. I was dating a man at the time and we took I-70 to the Topeka area, and I was the navigator, so I said,' how about take that HWY 36 home. And so we did. And sure enough we slowed down in Atwood, and looked to the right and there was the cutest covered bridge, and lovely lake! So a few weeks later we camp back camping at that lovely lake. We had such a quiet peaceful weekend. Everyone was so friendly. Went to the movie theatre in town. It was only $5.00 for an adult to see a move and $2.00 for the kids! WOW! And then I asked about the house prices, found out that they were around $60,000 or less. AND I ran up toe hill to Good Samaritan, which was a long term care facility and Got called for a job interview to be a nurse aide that following week. Made another trip out the Atwood (Approx 216 miles straight east of Denver). Contacted the real estate agent. Got a job, got a lovely house, sold mine in Denver and raised my two children. Both graduated from high school out here and are going to college in the area. AWSUM place. thinkgs to do to fit into a small community...buy a house, enroll a couple of children in the school, get involved with school stuff and community stuff. Work in town and attend a church. And the Lions club!
