7/2/2011Bryan County schools are better on the whole, but their best schools don't beat the best schools in Chatham. I went to Charles Ellis, Oglethorpe Academy (Oglethorpe Charter), and Savannah Arts Academy. My parents (and I) could not have been more pleased. These three rival private schools not just academically, but socially.

7/2/2011I'd like to add that there are quite a few great schools in the public school system (May Howard Elementary, Charles Ellis, Oglethorpe Charter, Savannah Arts Academy, etc.) and that Johnson HS has the IB Program. The problem isn't that the education isn't available to them, it's that the parents don't care to seek it out for them.

7/2/2011Check out Ardsley Park in mid-town. It's historic, but has a more suburban feel than downtown. You'll get trees and a yard and it's centrally located - so only 10 minutes from downtown, southside, or the Islands. Another suggestion would be Wilmington or Whitemarsh Island - definitely more suburban, but it's Savannah-suburbs, (which means still old with trees, overhanging moss, marsh, etc.)
[I live in NYC now, but my mom's been selling Real Estate in Savannah since I was in diapers. =)]
