Macon, GA

Small Town Life, but Close to Everything
- 5/17/2007
After moving to Macon 28 years ago, moving to Atlanta for several years and then back to Macon again, I have gained a renewed appreciation for the "small town" appeal that Macon offers. There are no hour-long commutes to work in heavy traffic, no outrageously priced real estate markets, no driving all the way across Atlanta to reach your favorite stores or restaurants. Even though Macon has grown tremendously in the last ten years and offers a variety of fine restaurants, entertainment, shopping, festivals, museums, colleges, universities and Southern heritage points of interest, the city has been able to maintain its small Southern-town charm and pace of life.

Macon is centrally located in the state and close to everything.
Want to spend time at the beach? Savannah, Jeckyl Island, and the Atlantic coast are only about four hours away. Florida and Disneyworld; about six hours away. The North Georgia mountains and Octoberfest? Four hours North. The Atlanta Symphony, Ballet, Atlanta Braves,Martin Luther King Memorial, Atlanta Falcons, High Museum of Art? About an hour's drive from Macon.

I have been blessed to raise two children here, operate my CPA firm for the last twenty years, be a part of a wonderful church and spend some special times with friends and family; all in MACON. Yes, like all cities, Macon has some problems, but it has been a great place to live.
