Life in Dowagiac October 2008 -
10/10/2008Dowagiac is small town, with a small town atmosphere. I have not lived here my whole life nor did I grow up here, but it is an okay town to raise children. Alot of country and space. The economy is in a crisis right now, the unemployment rate is high, but this is all over Michigan. The manufacturing and industrial jobs seem to be closing up left and right. But for small town business owners its not a bad place, the city council is looking to bring other industry to the city to increase growth, and quality of life. There are a few new companies moving to town, plus there are a number of surrounding area companies to work.Dowagiac is centrally located around some major cities such as Chicago, Kalamazoo, and South Bend/Mishawaka. If you want a small town life with a big time job and dont mind the commute its a great place. The many... many... lakes are beautiful and fun in the summer and attract alot of Chicago tourists. If you like ATV's, dirtbikes, snowmobiles, demolition derby's, water sports, lake fishing, its a nice town. Dowagiac also has close access to community colleges and universities such as Western Michigan University and Notre Dame, for anyone interested in higher education. It is also a big farming community! Alot of people are working to make Dowagiac one of the best small towns with opportunities and jobs for its community.
