Terrible little burg -
1/11/2017I've lived here for 15 years. Almost all the restaurants are fast food. State government is the dominant workforce and does not pay well, so many businesses open only to close a few weeks or months later, due to lack of business. The local municipality, the Frankfort Plant Board, charges a premium for electricity, water, and Internet, and the prices climb every year or two. The Internet has been especially bad for years, but there has been some improvement with the creation of the new head-end unit in the Tanglewood neighborhood. The FPB will cut trees on your property without your permission, and is generally the worst municipal organization I have ever experienced. For a small town, traffic is very bad before and after work, as people are coming into Frankfort from Lexington and Louisville (larger, but nicer towns) and leaving after work to go back there. The town is not well-kept, and many empty storefronts loom around, with tall weeds in the median and alongside roads. There is not much in Frankfort as far as parks and community centers, although there is a YMCA.
I could not recommend this town with a clear conscious to anyone.
