I thought it was a cute town Posted On: 10/30/2010 5:17:22 PM
I just came back to FL from Fort Smith, had a job interview at a medical center over there. Everyone I met was as nice as could be, gas was cheaper there than my hometown, and the rates on apt rentals are awesome!! I can certainly get ahead in this town and be able to save money. Fort Smith is about to gain a new member of their little community.

Wow i disagree with every aspect of your post. our oceans are polluted, everyone's out for only themselves, and the only ethnic groups people dont discriminate against are their own- and everybody definitely does NOT dance to salsa. The only way south florida resembles "the capital of latin america" is that alot of the "citizens" around here do not bother to speak/learn english. That's the long and short of it.
Native South Floridian looking to get out!!!! Posted On: 9/27/2009 5:30:38 PM
Please save yourself the stress and look elsewhere to live. This place is awful, even for me, a lifelong 30 year old South Floridian who is "used to it". Crime is through the roof, people are rude, the city is racially divided, and the populace is waaaay too congested. South FL is the beacon for refugees from Cuba and Haiti. There are many poor neighborhoods around here- within blocks of the nicer areas. Every year, all the bohemians fly to fort lauderdale to shop at Wal-Mart during "tax free week". Winter is overloaded with snowbirds, causing our already congested roads to come to a grinding halt every year. In Fort Lauderdale, you learn how to become an aggressive driver real quick, lest you get cut off or ran off the road entirely. This is no paradise. I remember when I was a little kid, things were different. Our beaches actually had life in them- fish, crabs, etc. Now that is a thing of the past, unless you are willing to drive down to the Keys. People dump tires, shopping carts, coolant, and everything else in the bays. No one cares about the environment, even the city officials, who dump millions of gallons of semi-treated WASTEWATER into our beaches everyday!

this is completely inaccurate. there is a very high poor and lower middle class population here. none of them care what their car looks like as long as it gets them where to go. very few people are materialistic, and they are either the rich folk over at Lauderdale by the Sea or the thugs and drug dealers in lauderdale lakes.
