Orlando Sucks -
5/12/2011I have lived in Orlando since '89 went to Middle and High School here. I am originally from Boston and if all goes well will be moving back soon. I have lived in Atlanta as well. I can just say this. I am college educated and have high credentials in Human Resources and it does not matter here. If you don't earn over $60,000 then you cannot make it here unless you want to live in a terrible area. My daughter got lucky and we were blessed to find the charter school that she is in which is the best in the state of Florida. Other than this particular school I would have moved along time ago. As soon as she is out for eight grade summer (possibly sooner) we are gone. The problem with Orlando is no employment (Florida was one of the hardest hit states next to Nevada during the recession), the police give everyone a ticket for no reason (look it up Orlando is 7th in police traps and three Florida cities ranked in the top ten), and DRUMROLL please....I have been discriminated against...get this... not for my color (I'm black)...but because I don't have as much....I have also lived in Tampa/St. Petersburg area...same thing. The most classist state I have lived in. Boston may have terrible weather, not so nice people (who cares), but I can get a job... no excuse me a career, finish my Masters, my daughter will be empowered with real culture a place for her to take her violin lessons and other things. My family is there and that is the biggest thing...support. Everyone has a reason why they are somewhere and if you don't like a place move. I'm all about change and will do it in a heartbeat. Oh yeah and I make $15/hour and pay almost $900 rent. Where is the low cost of living have never seen it!!!!
