1/5/2015Your opinions are probably valid to you, certainly, but they are not exclusive to Milwaukee. I know women from Cincinnati to D.C. who say the exact same things about the lack of decent men. At least Milwaukee has been voted a "manliest" city and is not renowned for the extent of its gay population! :P

1/5/2015Thank you, Vera. This is such a genuine assessment!! (By the way, I just love the Midwest and the direct, honest, friendly way about people there!) When I was living in Chicago, I would go up to Milwaukee sometimes and it struck me as being one of the most underrated cities in the States (and I've been to most major cities and lived in 5 different states).
You are absolutely correct to note that the lakefront and parks are gorgeous!! It was great to see several people out enjoying them, too. I got the impression that many people were into the great outdoors & fitness there, which is so positive. Moreover, access to these views and trails was much more convenient than in Chicago. Also, there were some very charming, well-preserved neighborhoods and other cute historic gems. The art museum is outstanding--jaw-dropping--with exhibits that I still remember with awe! The restaurants and coffee shops seemed very appealing and creative with great service. All in all, it had an amazing combination of world-class features with a warm, homey, manageable feeling about it. Thanks, Vera, for verifying my impressions.

Special Place to visit... -
1/5/2015I highly recommend historic Alexandria as a place to visit and meander about, especially in Old Town. The prices are steep, but the genuine charm is almost unmatched in the nation. I love being near the water. It is definitely worth a leisurely visit several times over--an authentic tourist gem.
