Hooks, TX

Small-town pride - 10/15/2011
I used to live in Texarkana, which is about 15 miles away. Hooks always seemed like a friendly, quiet little town where the main focus is the school. Residents are very proud of their schools and their athletic teams. The people I met from there always seemed friendly and well-mannnered. It is close enough to Texarkana, which has a selection of restaurants and shopping.

Santa Barbara, CA

Expensive Lifestyle - 7/15/2010
I have visited Santa Barbara and found that it is indeed one of the most beautiful cities in the United States and the weather is almost perfect. Too bad that the only ones who seem to be able to live here are either the very rich or the homeless! You get the feeling that the city fathers like to have you come to visit but would rather not have anybody else come here to live!

Benton, AR

Nothing Worth Saying - 7/15/2010
Nobody leaves a comment about Benton because it is such a forgettable place! Very unattractive with nothing to do and nothing to boast about except that it isn't far from Little Rock and Hot Springs. Camouflage is the favorite fashion statement and the start of deer hunting season is the town's favorite holiday!

Texarkana, TX

T-Town Love - 7/15/2010
You have to live in Texarkana to really appreciate it! Like any place, it has its share of positives and negatives. But it is a pretty town, just the right size for a lot of people's liking. It is located within easy driving distance of Dallas, Little Rock, and Shreveport. The people are friendly and high school sports are a big deal here. You can find a nice home in a clean and attractive neighborhood for under $200,000. I lived there once and would gladly move back!

Edinburg, TX

Little Mexico - 11/1/2009
Edinburg is 95 percent Hispanic, which tells you a lot. People down here talk about cultural diversity. WHAT diversity? There is a large number of illegal immigrants which drain the schools and welfare. there isn't much to do in this town but at least it is close to McAllen, which has a large number of restaurants and stores. The summers here are extremely long and it rains very little. The winter is pleasant. No opportunity unless you want to work a minimum wage job. The people aren't very friendly and customer service is very poor.

Edinburg, TX

Not Much Here - 10/22/2009
Edinburg and the whole Rio Grande Valley is a very unique place, but mostly not in a good way. There are so many illegal immigrants here that often I am not sure if this is Southern Texas or Northern Mexico. A lot of property crime and the people are not very friendly. You will find terrible service at most stores with some employees not even speaking English. The summers are hot, of course, like the rest of Texas, but they last six or seven months. You will get basically no rain except for the occassion hurricane. You will also find that you are a good four hour drive from any major city. No college sports to speak of. The only people who seem to like it here are the ones who were born here and have lived here all their lives. I guess they just don't know any better!
