Retired Exxson/Mobil and spouse an educational diagnostician/administrator for special ed., former sp. ed. classroom teacher. 5 grown, married children w/ children. (Two thumbs up from all for Gulf Shores!) Active in church activities,
chairman of a very successful church "Thrift Shop", neighborhood activities, golf, bridge...etc. Active local and state politics.
Originally from Virginia/DC area, lived in Houston for 23 yrs.
Decided not to retire with 4,000,000 of our most intinate friends, and after looking MANY places, found Gulf Shores. Paradise!! Will carry us out of Gulf Shores in a box!!

Welcome to Paradise! - 11/18/2009
We retired here from Houston 6 years ago. We found Gulf Shores by accident, as the fact that Alabama HAS a coast is not widely known! It is "land locked" unlike most other Gulf Coast towns. (No ocean highway, linking town to town, etc.) It has a family atmosphere, has a WONDERFUL infrastructure and facilities that would be found in much larger communities!!! Churches are small, friendly........one can get very involved in all aspects of the town. (The mayor is a neighbor!) We get about 15-17,000 "snowbirds" a year, who are very active in the community (fund raisers, etc.) and busy in the summer, BUT most of all a small tight knit community for ALL who live here, no matter where you are originated!! WE love it..................
