2/28/2010I have lived in Merced off and on for 35 years. I am currently living in Atwater a few miles north of Merced. This county is a horror story. The gangs tag EVERYTHING so that our streets, sidewalks, businesses and highway signs look like a 3rd world country.
Welfare is a career choice in this county. High school drop outs and teenage pregnancy is THE NORM and the highest in the country. DO NOT move here. I don't even wear my wedding rings because they will steal them off your hands in the the grocery store parking lot.I no longer go out at night, it's just not safe. Merced and Atwater are breeding pools of Mexican gangs and their numbers have exploded. This county is doomed....I'm taking a loss on my house and moving WAY north out of this state.
