7/31/2012I respectively disagree with some of the comments you make about West Palm Beach. You can live in any city or metro area and will encounter the same issues like you described here. West Palm Beach is not perfect, but it is far from being "worse than you can imagine", like you stated. This is South Florida and we have a melting pot of all different kinds of races and languages, but West Palm Beach is NOT Miami. The beaches here are beautiful and "not polluted", so I'm not sure which beach you go to. You say you haven't gone to the beach in "years", so I'm not sure how you would know. Palm Beach County has some of the most beautiful beaches anywhere. I have not encountered any rude people here except for the rude drivers, vacationers and retired folks who come down here during "season". The job market is really suffering here, that is true. There is no State Income Tax, and jobs pay lower on average. A lot of companies are unethical, as I have experienced this first-hand. Don't "all" teachers complain that they never make enough money? I don't know anyone who is ever satisfied with what they are making, but most teachers really don't work very hard and they are "out" of school more than they are "in". All in all, West Palm Beach is a great place to live. There is a lot to do here and see. There is "culture", you just have to go out and explore it. We have beautiful parks here, many annual events and festivals for families. It's not all bad, like you portray.

7/29/2012I have lived in the West Palm Beach area for almost 20-years and I love it here. I love the climate, nature, lifestyle--which is why most people want to be here! I get so tired of people saying "It's too hot...It's too humid"......Well, WHAT DID YOU THINK FLORIDA WAS GOING TO BE? COLD?? Florida, in case you did not know has a sub-tropical climate. It's TROPICAL. This area is not as bad as some people say. Perhaps they live in the bad areas, and EVERY city has it's good and bad areas. The job market is not great here and South Florida was really hit hard by the recession. There is a lack of high-tech jobs here. If you work in medical, you will live a good life here. West Palm Beach is a small city and experiences the same problems as other small cities around the country.

7/29/2012I live in a suburb of West Palm Beach, Florida which is located in Palm Beach County. I disagree with a lot of things that the "native" Floridian said about West Palm Beach. I have lived in the Palm Beach area for almost 20-years. First off, things change over time. Yes, some things have gone downhill about this area, while other aspects of the City and County have changed for the better. If people don't speak English in your local Wal-Mart, then maybe you are living in the wrong neighborhood. The job market is really poor here at best, especially for someone who is college educated. Minimum-wage jobs are plentiful, but they don't pay the bills, nor does it allow you to live in a desirable neighborhood. We need more high-tech jobs here, not just medical jobs. The Schools are not the best, but I'm sure there are worse places in the United States than Palm Beach County. I love Palm Beach County for the weather, nature and the lifestyle and that is why most people move here or want to be here. There is good and bad anywhere you live. No place is perfect. I have never really come across any rude people here. Most people I meet are quite pleasant. During "season", you will see more people from New York and Jersey and encounter more rude drivers on the road. South Florida is a playground for the rich and a haven for the retired folks--always has been and always will be. If West Palm Beach (South Florida) were not desirable, no one would want to come here!
