Leland, NC | 1 Review(s)

Retired and moved to Mexico in 2005. After 6 years as expatriates, my wife wanted to return to the US and convinced herself the Cape Fear region of NC was the place to be. This has not really worked out for us and we are considering a move the desert southwest.

Leland, NC

Mostly Unpleasant - 2/18/2014
Having grown older, I find myself increasingly intolerant of cold weather, but the type of winter weather here mimics that of my home state, Texas, and I hated it growing up and I hate it now. There is no weather more bone chilling than a 40 degree rainy day with a 10 to 15 mile per hour wind. As for summers, it is hot and humid from mid-May until near the end of September. A typical summer morning at sunrise finds the mercury at 75 degrees and the humidity at 98%. There are perhaps 4 weeks in Spring and another 4 in the Fall that qualify as truly pleasant days (as opposed to just a bit warmer or cooler that the preceding few weeks) and the weeks in the Fall are included in hurricane season. If climate is important to you, I cannot recommend this area.
