I cannot wait to move away from the Raleigh, NC region. NY, NJ and New England transplants mixed in with local NC Raleigh natives - a strange combination. It is not a friendly place overall - I do not recommend the area. The WOMEN are also not very happy or polite around Raleigh compared to other regioons- a strange phenomenon.

Raleigh, NC is Overrated, and Generally Not a Frie - 10/14/2010
I cannot believe how "hyped up" the Raleighm NC area is. It is a strange combination of transplans from New York, New England and New Jersey mixed with local Raleigh North Carolinians. I am very disappointed at the lack of basic manners that people have here- it is generally not a friendly area - Raliegh AND the surrounding suburbs. Most people don't say hello to strangers, say please or thank you, hold doors, and they are very agressive drivers, in fact in my subdivision our so-called "neighbors" don't even speak to us! And I am not saying it is all becuase of the Northeast transplants.. it seems that the prevailing culture around Raleigh- North Carolinians included. I have lived in other states, and have to say the Raleigh, NC area is one of the least impressive area I've been to. And another strange thing is that WOMEN around Raleigh - for some strange reason - are not very friendly or polite. My wife even notices this! They come across as real snobs. Again, I am speaking in general- of course there are some friendly people around here- but just not on a general cultural level.
