South Farmingdale, NY | 1 Review(s)

Getting ready to retire, my family owns homes in NY and near Mobile Alabama. I miss the Mobile area, but I'm looking for another place between the Mobile area and Long Island NY, so I can be closer to my children and grandchildren.
South Carolina is beautiful, I just need to know more about cost of living, housing, taxes and owning/insuring automobiles.

Cannot retire here. - 4/13/2011
Long Island has always been my home. It has become too sodden with overpaid politicians and has lost touch with the people paying the taxes. Balancing the budget, our Governor is happy to have done so and not renewed the surcharge/tax on people who make over $1,000,000.00 per year. The highway and bridges; infrastructure; is breaking down, the income tax is high and the welfare roles are high. Necessary services for the population at large has taken a back seat to services that address English as a second language - not American citizen's, mind you, but folks who are not yet citizens. A blind eye is cast toward the neighborhood problems of the influx on non-citizens into an area. Too many folks in a residence, schooling for transients, hospital care for those who take it and leave the debt behind. Benefits of living here have a sharp division between the wealthy and the destitute as the so-called "middle class" has had to bear the burden of the costs and yet, cannot seem to have their issues addressed adequately.

I'm looking to go somewhere else, where a fixed income can make ends meet, and folks treat each other with respect.
