Utah has been growing through the recession, especially in the tech industry. Adobe is building a large new facility right in my back yard. Twitter is building a data center here. And as scary as it sounds, the NSA is building a huge telecommunications "listening post." that will employ 15,000 people.
Why all the growth when so many other places have been faced with a huge recession? Utah is business friendly. It has a high percentage of college graduates, and the highest per capita multi-lingual population in the country.
