re: Agree with the Racist Comment - 4/18/2013

Uh, Ophelia was talking about having moved FROM the South UP TO Boston, and was pointing out how racist and bigoted they were THERE. I spoke with a magistrate about what you're talking about. He said that it had to have been, especially since the magistrate was out, the way you describe because there was probably something going on in the section you wanted to go and you were in that, unfortunately, uncomfortable are for your own safety. And he was African American. And almost half of Greensboro citizens are African American. And there are wanna be Nazis with SS and Confederate flags as well as tattoos EVERY where in this nation as well as racism AND "classism." How do I know? Been to a LOT of different regions in this country and have seen it. And you gave away what you didn't like about Greensboro; you said "there are a lot of really nice cities within no more than 40mins" by saying CITIES. You're from a city, I take it? Greensboro is a small town. Like I keep saying: do your research and find out about a place before you move there, bringing your own prejudices and expect the area to be the way you want it for you.

It tends to be Northerners that always complain about the South when it's not that way at all. They tend to bring their prejudices with them and expect every place they move to to be exactly the way they want it to be. I know: been there, done that. Greensboro is a pleasant, progressive, small town place to live and work.

Greensboro is Fine; Pay No Attn to Haters - 3/4/2014
Having lived in so many differing regions in the U.S., what I've found is that people who move to a small town from a large one and/or moving to one region from another one, these people tend to bring their own prejudices with them. If they expect the town or region to be a certain way, especially if they want it to be "their" way, they talk very badly about the place. Northerners move to the South and criticize the Southerners very badly... VERY badly. Southerners who need to move to the North try to assimilate, but then get resentful because of the way they get "teased" even called -- supposedly in all "good humor" -- names. These negative comments about Greensboro are evidently from people who probably expect the fun to come to them. The town is in the middle of the state and it's obvious that the mountains and beaches are a few hours' drive away. It's also a small town, meaning that there's not going to be a great big party lifestyle there; it's the same for small northern town. The people there are down-to-earth and they are not racist; almost half the population there is African American. The one commenter who talks about having to go to the police station(?)/court house(?) with his/her "black friends" and where they were treated poorly as compared to when he went to the same place with his "white friends" probably didn't find out exactly why that was. I spoke with a magistrate about this and he said that it had to have been because there was something going on in the other part of the building and the officials had to ask them to wait in the uncomfortable area because of that. There IS a sense of community because it IS small. If you don't want to see your neighbor often, then go move to a big city where you can remain anonymous, especially if that's your thing. In the Midwest, folks there are retentive about opening up to you, but then warm up to you later on (Johnny Carson is a good example: a Midwesterner who is warm and charming, but kept his private life private). And they are guarded about their opinions, too. Out west, they are open to start with and are pretty laid back, but are snobs to people they don't know you, and drivers are considered crazy. I honestly know all this: been there, done all that. Do your research! Nowadays, there's so much information available to us, especially by way of the Internet, that you can get a pretty good idea of where you're moving to. Greensboro is truly a nice place to work and live. It's what YOU make of it -- or ANYwhere you live, for that matter -- and YOU need to learn to grow where you're planted. Otherwise, you'll shrivel up and will have to up-root yourself and go elsewhere. If you do, do it on your own; don't blame the area or the people.

According to your so-called grammar, it appears that YOU are the ignorant Northerner. I'm sure no one asked you come to the South and we're all happier when a Northern bigot like you goes the hell on back. If you didn't notice that Greensboro is in the MIDDLE of the state, and didn't do your research first, then you wouldn't be complaining that the mountains and the beaches are not in your back yard. Duuuh. Southerners are not ignorant or slow; they're down-to-earth and appreciate the REAL things in life, not bars, not drinking, not the night life like you evidently do. Go on back up North, stay there, and find all the drunken night life you want. Glad your snobby wife is going with you too. And kids pick up WHATEVER is going on in their schools no matter WHERE they live or go to school. I should know: been living in all kinds of different regions in the U. S. and especially North Easterners are THE WORST.

re: Why do you think they call it "GreensBORING?"
- 3/4/2014
Yes, do go to a bigger city. There's a reason that there are small towns in the ENTIRE country, not just in NC. Had you done your research, you would've noticed that Greensboro is in the middle of the state. No one needs your attitude in a happy, small town anyway.
