Distorted perception of crime -
7/20/2008Petersburg's crime statistics do not accurately reflect the true picture of our city. Unfortunately, cime is crime, but the lack of the most serious random acts of crime is mostly absent. Yes, we have our crime ridden areas like all communities do, but is is mostly domestic related. Our police department has been repoting one incident as multiple incidents when they get several calls for the same incident, i.e. 10 calls are interpreted as 10 different incidents.
The police dept. is working more closely with the citizens,the state police, and the Attorney General's office on the drug dealing network here,which as in most communities, is the worst contributor to the city's crime.
Downtown Petersburg for the skeptis is the most active and secure part of the city. Visitors and residents are encouraged to visit all of our local[NO CHAINS]shops. restaurants, and galleries in Olde Towne,as well as all the new loft apartments and condos for an easy commute to Ft. Lee and downtown Richmond.
