I am in love with my city! The next city I want to explore, or state, rather, is Oregon =)

Portland, Eugene, Oregon--Roadtrip anyone?

PS- I heard Asheville, NC is a lot like Burlington.

re: Philadelphia, my pros and cons - 10/17/2009 Posted On: 7/16/2010 11:28:30 PM

I would NOT recommend moving here!

Philadelphia:

-Dirty
-Uneducated
-Parking (finding parking is terrible and then parking spots are tight... also, NO free parking)
-Unsafe (must lock doors at all times, watch your back, cannot leave things in car, etc).
-Weather (Humidity absurd and too hot and sunny)
-Loud
-Poor air and water quality (results in poorer quality of life)
-Restrictive/Limiting: Cannot go out after 5 because 1. It's unsafe and 2. Cannot find parking upon return!
-Gym memberships twice the amt.
-Groceries more expensive :( $50-60/wk instead of $40.00. Also, less healthy :(

+More work opportunities
+Art museums!
+More people here to meet, meetup groups.
+More GLBT resources
+Cool dance clubs!
+Diversity
+Poetry slams!

Over all, I would highly recommend NOT moving here. I have had a horrible experience with this city from the beginning. Trust me, it's uneducated, dirty (filthy, rather), rude, loud, noisy, polluted, horrible parking (tight spots, banged up cars, expensive parking, no free spots). Move elsewhere!

Amen! OMG, I have been visiting here for 3 months now... living here actually, but I am moving out of here! Philadelphia is uneducated, dirty, loud, noisy, unsafe, TERRIBLE parking (parking is expensive, TIGHT, not free --rarely anywhere), and people are rude! I completely vouch for this!

Burlington, VT --Excellent, 5-stars! Posted On: 7/9/2010 10:37:30 PM

I absolutely LOVE Burlington and would love to meet others who share the same belief. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with Burlington. The only cautionary I would advise you of, is you MUST be okay with long and COLD winters... they're brutal!

Over all, Burlington is artsy, progressive, liberal, full of musicians (though not as many as Asheville, NC), writers, and artists. It is organic and health-conscious. I heard Ithaca, NY is, too :) It's political and full of activism (similar to Northampton, MA), hip, vibrant, a good arts scene w/poetry and open Mic on Monday's at Radio Bean.

Burlington is beautiful... in the state of VT, billboards are prohibited to preserve the natural beauty :) Burlington is truly "home" to me and my first "home" away from home. I love it.

I am wondering if it's similar to Eugene, OR? ...or even Portland, OR though obviously much smaller! I have never been to OR, but would love to meet someone who has and maybe road trip together ;)

At any rate, you cannot go wrong in Burlington if you can tolerate the winters!
