Greensboro, NC
Escape from G'boro -
10/27/2009Up until recently, I lived in Greensboro for several years, and could not be happier since moving. I would have left sooner had my company not kept me there. This is no place to live if you want to do anything other than go to work and go home. There is literally nothing to do here outside of a few places to hang out in the downtown (which gets old quickly).
This town is sprawling, which is a big part of the problem with Greensboro IMO. You have to drive EVERYWHERE, it often seems like a maze of endless strip malls and chain restaurants. I will say I think downtown Greensboro has potential in terms of revitalizing the city's image and economy, but it seems an apathetic notion as the population and economic interests are dispersed over such a huge geographic area.
On the other hand, this just might be a good place for a young couple starting a family. It is cheap to live here, and there is no shortage of very affordable housing. So, if you're on a tight budget, and looking to raise a family in an isolated suburban twilight zone, Greensboro might be the place for you.
