re: urban crime - 4/16/2007 -
2/13/2008I recently visited San Antonio to attend the Alamo Bowl. On my way home from the game, I was attacked and robbed. When I got back to my hotel, I immediately called the police. They were concerned and attentive to everything I said. They took me with them to cruise up and down the block where it happened, but we never saw the culprits. I had originally planned to stay until Jan. 2, and being the person that I am, I decided not to let the mugging change that. I did have a decent time around the Riverwalk area, but I took a cab to get to and from my hotel. The bottom line is that I could never truly enjoy myself in a place where I was worried whether or not I was going to be mugged. I will never go to San Antonio again, and I would caution anyone going there to make sure to be careful.

The crime in Philadelphia is out of control! -
2/13/2008I live in Center City, specifically the Washington Square West area. It is supposedly one of the nicest parts of the city. In the three years that I've lived here, I was mugged at knife point, my friend's video store that is 2 blocks away has been burglarized several times and my roommate was attacked. He was admitted to the hospital with massive head injuries and his wallet was stolen. He was in a coma for a week and thank God that he woke up.
I am from the suburbs, and am not used to these kinds of violent crimes. However, it is hard to believe that these things are happening in an area where the average 2 bedroom home price is $500,000! Last year, a 26 year old grad student was raped and robbed in her 11th and Pine st. apartment, and the culprit was never caught.
When I graduate, I am moving and never looking back. I regret that such a seemingly nice part of the city is so overrun with criminals.
