Boxford CDP, MA

Safe enough..but ooh so boring - 3/17/2015
Like the only other poster from 2008 Boxford is well positioned on the so-called "northshore" of eastern MA. Very commutable to Boston...but not too close to get dirty also 15 minutes to NBPT and the NH border. The town demographic is made up of some middle class but mostly upper middle & millionaire hedge fund income people. As a result there is no ethic diversity in Boxford. 98% white. 0-18 and 35-55. Thats it! Wealthy whitebread move here to raise there brood then most move up to NBPT after the kids are out of the nest...yawn. Boxford is very isolated especially during the winter as there are no sidewalks, street lights or town center other than a rundown building where there is a diner & post office. The town politicians and associated groups (BTA/BOLT) will stop at NOTHING in order to advance their agenda of preserving the 'rural character' of their beloved town. As a result there is no town library as it has been condemmed due to black mold and a variety of other problems. The replacement library...a new 21st century meeting place which was beautifully rendered to integrate into the landscape has been successfully voted out for the past 30 years by select selectman and abutters. Additionally, all of the road signs especially signs marking the towns borders are rusted (in a bad way-not at all charming) nearly illegable and falling over. Concrete and wooden guard rails likely from the 60's are chipped, missing and have rusted rebar exposed. I have lived here 10 years and find myself counting the days until my daughter graduates from Masco allowing us to move away from the cold winters to a vibrant community in a warm climate. NOT WORTH IT. For your $$$ unless you are a hermit you are FAR better off in neighboring Topsfield.
