Hendersonville, NC
Think again... -
1/15/2008We moved to Hendersonville, NC about 3 years ago after living in a couple of large cities. We used to come here as kids and wanted to get away from the crowds and traffic. Apparently so did a lot of other residents. People are moving here in droves. The town is full of elderly people who shouldn't be driving any longer. People are selling their farms to developers who are creating huge neighborhoods (700+ homes)of expensive homes on very small lots in what used to be the idyllic countryside, driving the cost of land and homes well beyond what the native working people of the area can afford as well as ruining the views. The traffic is horrible (bumper to bumper and stop & go on the interstates) on holiday weekends and during tourist season (May - Nov.), there is usually at least an hour's wait time at any restaurant between here and Asheville. If you're planning on getting a job here, think minimum wage--the salaries are very low compared to other areas. Think again about moving here--pretty soon it will be just like where you came from!
