Oro Valley, AZ
Oro Valley is so much less than advertised -
9/22/2013Some of these reviews are so inaccurate. Rentals for a 2-bedroom are closer to $1000/mo and up if you want to live in a safer neighborhood. People here are so intolerant and unfriendly. The climate is really nice but the people make it a really unpleasant place to live. I know many couples who are moving back to cold climates because they are so unhappy in Oro Valley. The quality of housing is poor... ostentatious layouts but poor quality construction, not designed for the climate. Licensed contractors are also untrained and dishonest... the licensing procedure does not include a proficiency test. Shockingly provincial. You will end up buying everything on the internet if you move here.

Climate is the attraction; otherwise, brace for Hi -
6/20/2007The mountains and weather are great. Locals have a third-world, anti-intellectual, uptight, inferiority complex that makes moving here from a cosmopolitan area a real challenge. Sophistication about cuisine and local food shopping rates a 2 out of 10. There's close to no interest in recycling, water, or energy conservation (they talk the talk but don't walk the walk) and local government is a joke. Welcome to the 1950's. It's a macho, gun-toting society. But Tucson is the bluest city in the state. Forewarned is forearmed.
