Beautiful, but complicated.

Lilly Charleston, SC About this SperlingExpert Lilly Currently lives in Charleston, SC I read that you list the Charleston area as low crime. Wrong. The Charleston area ranks in the top ten in the nation per capita for crime. We are also (per capita) one of the most congested traffic areas in the country as well. Charleston is a beautiful area, but it needs some serious changes.

Economy

Not good. Lots of employment opportunities, but not good pay.

Cost of Living

Lousy! Higher than average cost of living with lower than average pay.

Housing

We have a building boom that is continuing. Homes aren't affordable for the area pay.

Crime

Consistently ranking in the top ten for highest crime in the nation. It doesn't feel as safe as it did ten years ago.

Climate

We have four seasons, most years that is. Falls are cozy. Winters mild and spring is beautiful. Summers make up for the lovely weather. Very hot and very humid.

Transportation

What transportation?? We have buses that go a few places. Check out our rush hour traffic! What a nightmare. I believe we rank in the top five most congested traffic areas (per capita) in the country.
