| 1/17/2008 | parent | I am a former graduate from Andalusia High School. My sons(two) graduated from Andalusia. Andalusia is one of the most classy, pride oriented, top notch schools in Alabama. The teachers, faculty/staff and administration do a great job at educating their students. The total school climate is 'academic excellence'. This is their focus day by day, month by month, and year by year. The athletic program is top notch as well. This school provides a variety to academic skills embedded with athletics. The students here are motivated to excell in both areas. It's competitive and has pride in every aspect. You won't get a better education in the surrounding areas. Those of you who feel that Andalusians are snobbs, well if they are(which they aren't) they are snobbs with class, pride, and a great education. If you can't best us..come on and join us! | 6/8/2006 | parent | I am a graduate of AHS as well as my son. My daughter is in the 10th grade. AHS offered me a quality education and a variety of extracurricular activities. That has not changed. My son was at the top of his class and is at a major university. My daughter is at the top. The principal, assistant principal, teachers & staff offer the best they can provide to each and every student that walks in those doors. The fact is, they can only do so much. Parents have to get involved. Just because your child hits 9th grade or begins to drive doesn't mean you should stop going to parent/teacher nights, ball games, plays, concerts, fundraisers, etc.... Our school has the best athletes and clubs around. We have to make sure that we as parents are standing behind the faculty, staff & our students to continue the AHS Pride. |

Our Band, Baseball, Basketball, Softball and Football teams are the best around. We all take pride in our school, tradtions and accomplishments. The teachers do care about the students and will help to be sure they do what they need to do to pass. Andalusia High School is the place to go unless you don't want a challenge and a wonderful education. |
| 1/16/2006 | parent | my son is in 10th grade at andaluisa high school. i had heard many tells about the high school before my son attended. i was not pleased with what is heard. however, i have found many of those stories to be false. first i would like to thank our principle and vice principle for the wonderful job they are doing for our school. as you may know in 05 we received an award for being one of the safest schools in the state of alabama. andaluisa high school has come a long way. we have a wonderful football and baseball program. our golf team won a championship in 05. we have a wonderful baseketball, sofball and volleyball program as well. one thing that helps with the football program is the awsome band that we have. however i do not feel that there is enough parent involvement in the school system. |

After moving back after 15 years away I was worried about how my kids would be accepted and they have been treated very well by the kids and faculty. I am greatly impressed with Dr. Shakespeare, He is a great principal and motivator. |

The classes are challenging but, I learned so much from them. Many people may say that Andalusia is too hard, but the faculty is only trying to prepare their students for the future. I went directly to a four year university, and a lot of the stuff I learned in high school has come in handy. Oh yeah, Andalusia people are not snobby, we are just proud of our achievements and our school! |
| 7/25/2005 | former student | AHS is a decent school to attend if your parents make $80,000 a year (in a city in which the average salary is $17,500 per year), but forget it if you have a single parent making minimum wage. The teachers and faculty didn't seem to understand when I went there that some students are poor (despite city efforts to correct that by zonning poorer students to county schools). In fact, I once knew a group of kids who had to drop or avoid classes due to the fact that the course(s) required too much computer work-seeing as though they were too poor to afford one and that the libraray computers are virtually inaccesible. On the lighter side, compared with big inner city schools the violence is marginal and the drug problem is as well. Furthermore, racial violence is also at a minimum, the teachers are great, and the students are smart. |

They think they are so much better than the county schools but when it comes to playoff time. The 'andalusia star news' is busy covering the county schools on the fri. Nights while the andalusia 'city' school jealously sits on the sofa. |

There season was not as good as it should have been in 2004 but I bet money that in 2005 they win state, and I bet they win state for a many a time after that, cause that got this new coach(Tom Causey) and he is quite the coach. |
| 1/26/2005 | former student | I think AHS overall was a great school...It was more of a second home...Some people may not think it matters but it does...I now attend a decently well know college and I am proud I attended AHS..I got to know all the students and teachers in a personal level...i really enjoyed classes...the staff does want to reach out and help..in fact they may even over push you at times...I also scored a 31 and was able to keep straight A's...gossip...name a school that doesnt gossip...local schools that are a better choice...give me a break..people make all A's when they move because its like moving from a private university to a local community college..yes there are some drugs but I always felt safe even being a minority in South Alabama...I think i have meet the nicest people here and i have been to several places around the world..overall experience I'd never giveup. |

However, the staff (with the exception of about 3 teachers) just never seemed to want to reach out and help. The student life was so stressful. I made low grades, yet recieved a 31 on my ACT. The people are not down to earth and most classes were centered around gossip with the teachers and what was going on that weekend rather than learning. If you are looking for education in this area, there are local schools other than AHS that would be a much better choice. |

They were always more than willing to help me out with anything that I needed. It provided me with the education that I needed to go directly to a four year university and to succeed there as well. If you want your child to get a lower level education, then send them to one of the surrounding schools, say 25 minutes away, where they can get high grades without learning. If you want them to receive the best education at a public school in Alabama, send them to Andalusia! |
| 5/8/2003 | | I am a former student of Andalusia High. My experience there was not the best in the world. The teachers don't have a good professional relatonship with the students. They just don't seem to care. I understand budget cuts affect class size as in student to teacher ratio but the teachers seem to only care about the numbers. Drugs and fighting were an issue on campus everyday. The staff may not have realized it but I did. I went from failing everything in Andalusia to transferring to another smaller school about 25 mintes away and making all A's and B's. Make your own decision whether or not this is where you want your child to go. I know mine won't attend there. Don't get me wrong the school has alot of great athletic programs and activities but its not all about sports, its about a safe place for our children to receive an education. |
