I am the gerat granddaughter of John Essex and i can say that John Essex High school is a great school my mom and family went there and i can truly say that the school has great leasership and not only that excellent teachers. JES needs more help from the community and amd remember my great grandaddy did this for us so lets full hard for this school. |

John Essex is an excellent school and the Teachers are doing great, especially with limited resources they receive, I applaud them for the effort. Great job and continue to get our children prepared for whatever they decide to do in the future. I know it gets hard sometimes and seems like it's not worthy the time, but it works out for the best. Their are alot of sucessfull people who had done well and graduated from John Essex, they were taught well and did what they needed to do in order to suceed. The school needs more support from graduates and the community. We can't just let strangers come in and take over without knowing the history of the school and what it has done for our children and others. |
| 5/12/2009 | other | I Graduated from JEH and I am very proud,I agree with the 2 previous post wholeheartedly they are both correct. Alot of people look down on JEH but the grading system is harder A's start at 93,B's 83 etc. We have alot of successful alumni My class has a pharmacist, a nuclear engineer that now trains people how to fly helicopters and is a professor at a Texas College teaching a military class, A RN, A business graduate just to name a few. We just need to support our school. |
| 4/7/2005 | former student | I graduated from jeh in 1994, me personally i don't think jeh is given the same chance at succes like the city school because of the classes that are taught. The classes should stay at a high school level but they should add a couple of classes that will prepare them for college as well. I just graduated with my degree in computer science and the classes we were being taught in college at the same time the kids in high schools were being taught the exact same thing, preparing them to be successful when its time to go to college. I would love to in anyway possible help my old school prepare the kids for the futher in the exact same way i was just educated in college. |
| 2/19/2005 | former student | I graduated from JEH and so did my two older brothers. 80% of Jeh graduates are very successful.People from Demopolis put Jeh down because it is an all black school. But unlike The city schools where it is still very segregated and you only get the good teachers is if you are from a well off family. Jeh teaches everyone the same way regardless of your name. Jeh doesnt get the funding like the city school system so the recognition and extra things the children need is not there ,it goes to sweetwater . But several alumni including myself are currently trying to find extra funding and some other things to improve our alma mater . The future is bright for Jeh. |
