1/10/2011parentI feel Foley Intermediate is a great school. Not only do the have great teachers but the office and cafeteria personnel are wonderful. All my children have attended this school and they have done an amazing job preparing them for middle school. Some parents have issues with discipline but I think its because they come from schools with no accountability for their conduct code and uniform policy. The single gender classes are great for children who want/need structure and more attention than other students, I have had 2 children to go through these classes. Ms. Mansell is a great principal, she cares for every student! The children are held accountable for their actions, good and bad. They need more parent volunteers, it takes everyone to make a great school.
12/9/2010parentI HATE this school. We had such a great experience at Foley Elem and this school just can not compare. I can not stand the principal- she is cold, rude, and ineffective. I am sick and tired of hearing about what color socks my daughter wore. I am sick of seeing check marks for not picking her book bag up off the floor or dropping a pencil. I put her in an all girls class after extensive research and was very disappointed in her teacher, grades and the curriculum. I ended up pulling her out and putting her in a mixed class. There are some serious class and race issues at this school as well. I am still not happy with her grades and know since we have NEVER had a problem until now that this is a school issue. I also know that I am not the only parent who feels this way. I wish the BCBOE gave one iota of a care about what the parents think about Ms. Mansell and the way she is running that school. I also can not stand the complete lack of communication from the school or them trying to tell me I am wrong because I feel this way. If you can-send them to Magnolia or home school them until 7th grade.
5/27/2009parentThe staff at Foley Intermediate do not seem to want parents bo be involved in their children's education. I find that sad. Also, too much time wasted on whether someone wore a belt than on math skills.
11/7/2008parentI also have a boy in 5th grade all boys class, and a girl in 4th grade all girls class. I have noticed the same thing about the'binder'. i mean come on really? my son gets in trouble for talking all the time. But what do you expect..no talking in the gym, hall, class, bathroom, lunch room!!! They do not have recess anymore, so when do they expect these kids to be kids? if i wanted my kids in military school, i would have put them there!! I hope someone prints this out and sends it to the school. They really need to change things around. I can not wait till my kids are out of this school!!!
9/25/2008parentI have a son in the all boys class. The purpose of this class was to cater to the unique differences between boys and girls learning styles. I am discoveing the very traits that make boys unique such as restlessness, talking, hands on, etc. and the very things these boys are being punished for. They have grouped all these boys together, given them teachers with less than 5 years teaching experience and expecting these children to be as still and quiet as robots. I don't know about the girls classes, but the boys' classes are not doing what they were designed to do.
6/3/2008parentI am a parent of a 4th grader that attended Foley Intermediate this year. I have to agree with the parent from the previous post. My son also had to sit in the office because he forgot his belt one day. Missed class because I was working until I got there with his belt. I understand that there is a dress code for Baldwin County Schools, but when a child has to sit in the office because of a belt missing I feel like there is something wrong with that. A child should not have to miss any class time due to a belt missing from their unform. There were other minor issues I also had with this school. I will give this school a plus when it comes to the all boys class. My son loved it! He won't be going back to this school due to problems with FMS.
12/1/2005parentTerrible experience. My child attended this school for 4th grade. The principle was rude and more concerned about the dress code than she was with the education process. My son forgot his uniform belt one day, so she made him leave class to sit in the office until I could be contacted. Since I was unable to bring him a belt (I was working), she wrote him up. He missed a good portion of his classroom teaching that day. School should be for learning and not for fashion goals. By the way, this school ranked low in the State Scholastic goal rating.
