| 3/2/2010 | parent | Farley is an excellent school. Yes, test scores are not exceedingly high for the lower grades, but as the grade increases, so do the scores. As a parent who used to focus on test scores I discovered that schools who score high on the standard tests basically teach the test on a daily basis. All questions are formatted exactly like the test and only situations given on the test are taught. When moving to Huntsville, I focused on other things, like life skills, adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, reading comprehension, no matter the level and the ability to be a part of a controlled, but flexible environment. This school works with your child, no matter the level of disability or accelerated learning level. The staff is diverse and so are the options available in the school for students with special needs and/or accelerated needs. Highly recommend! |
| 11/18/2009 | parent | I have two children, one currently at Farley and the other went to Farley and is now at Grissom. Farley is a great school, has a very caring principal, has wonderful teachers and they all give 110%. The school has a lot of diversity, so don't be fooled by the scoring method used on this website. My oldest got a great education at Farley and maintained top grades at Challenger Middle and has continued top grades at Grissom High. My child currently at Farley is doing very well in all subjects but he struggles in reading. They have helped and encouraged him greatly! I have seen great improvement with his reading skills and that is because they care! The office staff, principal, lunchroom, all teachers, aides and janitors are wonderful! Best elementary school in S. Huntsville!! |
| 5/15/2008 | parent | I have been involved with Farley for 8 years. As a parent of a special needs child and a normal child, you could not ask for a better school. The principle Dr. White has been the biggest supporter of the special needs and has created a great program for these kids and has always hired excellent teachers. Other Huntsville City Schools should model their special needs programs after Farley especially the upper grade schools. Initially I was not involved much with the PTA but have ended up serving on the PTA Board the past two years. All I can say is the PTA cares about the children and teachers and works hard to provide the best possible learning environment. What a fun team to work with. |
| 2/26/2008 | parent | best school in in the city. the staff are seconf to none. had a chance to ear lunch w/my child last month and the food was top notch. props to the kitchen manager. |
| 11/2/2007 | other | Farley is an excellent school with wonderful teachers and Dr. White is an amazing principal. She always takes time to get to know the students and parents. The 5th grade is excellent with the Williamsburg Trip. I think that most people who have written displeasing reviews have not taken into consideration the NO Child Left Behind act, which is bussing underprivledged children from some of the lower class neighborhoods. This is happing with all public schools not just Farley. |
| 7/25/2007 | parent | Farley Elementary has a wonderful staff. Dr. White is a caring and compassionate woman who also is a great principal. Farley has a great special ed teacher Mrs. Burns. She made the greatest difference in my adopted son's academic outlook. Mrs. Miles is a wonderful second grade teacher as is Mrs. Coleman (4th grade). |
| 7/10/2007 | parent | We have been with Farley 3 years. Your experience is what you make it! My children have had excellent teachers. There is always a need for more parent involvement, at every school. Dr. White will always make time to speak with you and the office staff is wonderful. The PTA is a little clique-ish but I have heard that of most schools. The art, music, and PE program are great. The school is always striving toward academic excellence. I would not want my children anywhere else! |
| 5/15/2007 | teacher | We are currently in our 7th year with children at Farley. We have been extremely happy with the teachers and the principal there. I would not want my children to go anywhere else! I have not been able to help at the school very much this year due to a sick child but I will definitely be back to volunteer! |
| 3/11/2007 | parent | Wonderful school. The parents need to be more involved in the activities and PTA. The teachers and staff are great. Lots of opportunities for the children. |
| 7/14/2006 | parent | There are more volunteers in the school than just 5. Let's not forget those serving as room mom and extended board members. I have served in all of those areas. I do not think that the pta runs the school. Yes they handle the meetings and contribute greatly in areas that need it but Dr. White makes all of the decisions concerning the school. The teachers are awesome and make it worthwhile. I also love the small town feel of the school and yet there is such a great variety of people from all over the world. |
| 6/2/2006 | parent | My child went to Farley and we were happy to begin with but became very dissappointed later on. PTA runs that school, not the principal. |
| 5/12/2006 | parent | I agree that Farley used to be a really great school but it has gone down. We've been here 7 years and it's getting worse. There is hardly any parental involvement except for the usual 5 or 6 that volunteer for everything. We are leaving Farley this year. It's been a bad experience for my child. The teachers are wonderful. |
| 4/27/2006 | parent | Farley was a great school when my child first started attending in kindergarten, but it has gone downhill somewhat. Attendance is becoming more lower class, when it was middle to upper class several years ago. |
| 8/20/2005 | parent | Our family is on our 8th year at Farley, 2nd child and we wouldn't go anywhere else. The smaller school atmosphere wont let you get lost in the crowd. The teachers are awesome! One thing that lacks is parental involvement from other parents, but I think thats the norm anywhere nowadays. They have great programs, a hard-working leadership team, and a staff that loves the kids. They welcome anyone who wants to help! |
| 4/14/2005 | parent | My child has attended Farley for almost 4 years and we've been very pleased with the school. The principal knows every child's name and I feel that the faculty presents a family-like atmosphere. Most of the teachers have a genuine interest in each child. Parent participation is encouraged and very appreciated. It's a smaller school, but I prefer that for my child. |
