| 12/15/2011 | student | The only thing I have to complain about I that the way the school is built does not make it feel like a high school. The colored wings are juvenile and remind me of middle or elementary school. The spikes on the ceiling, metal, and concrete remind me of a jail. Never the less, the school is beautiful and the staff is great. Activities, clubs, and classes are highly involving for most of the student body. |
| 1/10/2011 | student | An excellent school and a friendly social environment. This school might be new, but there is no negative interactions within and it already has a great activity program. |
| 5/12/2010 | parent | I have to agree with the posted review. As a parent of a graduating senior I have found very little response to inquiries regarding my student from the teachers. I have encouraged communication by sending emails and have them go unanswered it could take 3 -4 emails to get response from the teacher. We have had an excellent counselor for my child who was responsive to my request for meetings to know what credits would be needed to graduate and has been prompt to answer all emails. I do not find the administrative staff to have the same helpful attitude. It is my hope that the school will stop with worrying about trying all the new approaches and work at teaching and communicating with parents. |
| 3/2/2010 | parent | The Thunder Mountain High School 'THHS' facility is superb. The faculty seems very dedicated, however the administration although nice are much too tolerant of some highly obnoxious behavior of a few poorly behaving students. Despite being a new school, there is a group of students who litter, bully and generally show contempt for a beautiful learning environment. Even worse is the way it is tolerated by the administration. The counselors at this institution leave much to be desired. One has the impression that they are merely marking time to reach the magical retirement age - this is very bad for students. It was commended by others that if one truly wants help, they should seek the guidance of the Juneau Douglas High School counselors - a very poor review of present staff at TMHS. Despite these challenges with some improved guidance from the school board this school can have a bright future. |
