| 11/4/2009 | parent | This school has turned into one big mess. Plan on getting my kids out of here as soon as possible. |
| 6/9/2009 | parent | Canyon Breeze has certainly turned around this year with new leadership. Teachers seem to be happier and morale is increasing. It is amazing what a little structure can do! |
| 5/19/2009 | parent | Canyon Breeze has turned around the atmosphere and culture. Staff turnover has went down dramatically. The kids are happy to come to school and I think the new Principal plays a big part in that. He is very inviting and always has an open door. Keep up the great work! |
| 3/23/2009 | parent | My daughter is in 3rd grade, She has been left behind in all subjects and despite our efforts to get her extra help or even get her tested, the school has let the entire year slip away. She is the youngest one in her class, but is bright and has no behavior problems. I am now paying for the extra help she needs at a local learning center. I am not happy with Canyon Breeze and will switch her before she starts fourth grade. |
| 1/14/2009 | parent | We got a new principle this year. He came out strong, but has pittered out. Overall the school is O.K. |
| 10/8/2008 | parent | my son is in 6th grade and they have all new teachers, they are great and they work together for the child. |
| 9/30/2008 | parent | I have had children at this school since 2002. Class size, lack of discipline, and teacher turnover rate were the reasons I finally transferred my children to another school for the 2008 school year. At one point, there were 36 children and 4 different teachers in my daughter's 6th grade class and 32 students in my 1st grader's class - unmanageable for even the most gifted teacher. I know that a new principle took over this year....I wish him luck in repairing the damage done over the last few years. |
| 3/28/2008 | parent | My daughter has attended Canyon Breeze since it was built. Initially, the school had teachers who motivated the children and who were interested in teaching. However, during my daughters 4th grade year up until this year (7th grade), I have seen a decline in those two areas. Teachers have come and gone, there is a lot of turnover in this school. The number of substitutes seem to have an impact on the student's learning (as each sub teaches differently). My daughter complains almost on a daily basis of the lack of motivation her Science teacher is giving. He leaves her with an impression that he doesn't want to teach. It's a shame. |
| 3/5/2008 | parent | I have 2 children that have actually started when the school first opened. The staff and teachers have always been excellent with the kids and excelling in learning seems to be a very important priority. They are very willing to work with each child to make sure they exceed in all they can. I will miss the teachers and staff since my last child will be promoting this year. I do have the joy of seeing other family members send their kids there because of all that the teachers and staff do for the students. Keep up the awesome work Canyon Breeze! |
| 8/1/2007 | parent | Before my daughter started kindergarden, I researched quite a bit on which school I wanted my daughter to attend. I am very pleased with canyon breeze and most of the staff here. Mr Ramsey is an excellent principal and is very involved with the students and the parents. (the parents that care about education anyway) He always took time with me about anything I was concerned with, and he did it with a smile. Mrs Miller was her kindergarden teacher. She was the best teacher ever! Very patient with the kids, and parents as well. I was a helper once a week and saw this first hand. My daughter learned so much from her, and she made it fun for the kids. My only problem was the nurses. |
| 7/10/2007 | parent | Excellent & amazing teachers, for the most part. Teachers willing to support students and parents to see children succeed. Kids At Hope school. Good leadership. Some extracurricular activities available, but limited. On a sad note, there is not much parent involvement. The few that are involved are committed & welcome other parents who want to be involved. One other draw back is large class sizes, but that is something the district needs to work on changing. Hopefully we'll see a change. Custodial staff keeps the school grounds looking great. I have children that attend this school and would recommend this school to my family, friends and neighbors. |
| 9/19/2006 | parent | Mr Ramsey (the new principal) has made a huge difference as far as I can tell. My daughter is in a combined first/second grade class taught by Ms. Hildalgo... I can't say enough good things about the way her class is run. She has complete control, respect and anticipation from the kids at all times. Parents in this class are made aware of all that is going on on a weekly basis via a newsletter. This helps us parents that can't volunteer in the classroom know what our children are doing and what is expected. The music, art and PE on a consistent basis is great too! So far - so good!!! |
| 9/19/2006 | parent | Administration is truly trying to turn this school around thanks to a new principal and vice principal. My kids have attended Canyon Breeze for 5 years now and I see more improvement this year than ever. Discipline issues are being taken care of, positive reinforcement is becoming routine, and great teachers are all making it work. |
| 7/19/2006 | parent | The new principal in Jan '06 turned things around. The school is strong in K-4/5, middle school may need to be stronger in resources/books, etc. The support staff- up front, reading, music, art, PE, counciling are all really great- my kids always enjoy these subjects and visits from these staff memebers. Yes- parent involvement should be up- but whos responsiblity is that? Ours- so let's support the teachers & staff and make our kids proud by volunteering and helping out! They are only in elementary school once. |
| 6/13/2006 | parent | This school was great...my son went to the All-day kindergarten and he learned so much...i was very happy with this shcool. |
| 5/8/2006 | parent | I think that this school could become one of the best in Avondale. However, students who fall behind in daily classwork needs to be placed in afterschool remedial programs. Often my child has to wait until all the students are up to par. Parents need to actively participate in their child's(ren) education. It's a team effort. A new Prinicipal this year should set the stage for academic excellence. Discipline should be strongly enforced. If I do not see an improvement this school year, I will transfer my child to another school to have a better chance at succeeding. |
| 1/9/2006 | parent | The teachers give a good effort in educating the children, however the school itself lacks in support for the children. Personally, I felt my children were not encouraged enough when they showed they had strong grasp of certain subject, in fact, I felt they were being held back, Possibly due to large student teacher ratio. Motivation seemed to be lacking with this particular school. Not all teachers were this way, there were some very good teachers, as well as the not so good ones at this school. However, overall it did not work for me and my children. I do have to mention that there is a new principle (as of 06)that I am hoping would improve the motivation of this school into becoming a better one. However, I am taking out all three of my children from this school. |
| 12/31/2005 | parent | This school is incredible! They way the children are treated is amazing. The teachers command respect and you can tell they genuinely love their jobs and care about our kids! Keep it up Canyon Breeze! |
| 9/9/2005 | parent | We are new to Canyon Breeze- a month last year and then this year. The teachers seem to be trying very hard which is a good thing. Curriculum night was impressive, however there were not many parents there whcih makes me wonder about parent involvement. There seems to be a fair amount of extracurricular activities available. |
| 7/27/2005 | parent | The academic program lacks with respect to the expectation level being set very low for the children. I feel that the the teaching staff is not critical enough in regard to the quality of work the students turn in. Grades do not truly reflect the mastering or proficiency of the subject matter, but merely create a bell curve for the class. |
| 6/25/2005 | parent | This school has gone down hill, since the new prinicpal has taken over, two years ago. My Child will not be going back to this school until something is done with the Principal. |
| 5/2/2005 | parent | This school was a great school until the 2003-2004 school year when a new principal was hired. Since then, the school has completely gone downhill. There is no displine, no support, and good teachers are leaving. Hopefully, these things do not get overlooked. We want to have our great school back! |
| 4/14/2005 | parent | Canyon Breeze used to be a great school, with great teachers, and a great administration staff. Now a days, this isn't true, due to the current principal. |
| 4/14/2005 | parent | The teachers at the school are great and they really care about the kids. They work really hard to make everyone successful. However, the administration is weak and unfriendly. |
| 1/19/2005 | parent | This is a good school and the teachers really care about the students success. Two years ago there was a change in leadership with a new principal. As a result, the focus on positive reinforcement for good decisions and rewards for accomplishments have fallen to the waist side. The school administration doesn't seem invested in the students as it was prior to the new principal. Academically I believe the school is strong. Teachers encourage communication with the parents and work with students to excel. |
| 5/4/2004 | parent | My son is very lucky to attend this school. He has a wonderful teacher that respects him and treats him like an individual. I have dealt with many teachers and must say that they are a very caring, go beyond the basics kind of group. I hope that my son may continue going to this school for the next seven years. |
| 11/23/2003 | parent | We love this school! Our child has excelled academically and socially since moving to this school. Thank you Canyon Breeze Staff! |
| 5/6/2003 | | The principal is flakey at best. She does not follow her own rules or that of the district. In the past 2 years, one student was selling weapons to other students. The students were only suspended temporarly. |
| 4/21/2003 | | My child has attended Canyon Breeze for 3 years. The principal really cares about my child and her education. Her teachers are always available for extra help and support. We feel we have had the best that public education has to offer. |
| 10/15/2002 | | With budget cut backs, our children will benefit from as much parent involvement and volunteerism as possible. Please consider joining and participating in the PTA, as well as donating time to your child's teacher! |
