| 7/31/2009 | parent | Benson has finally got my support! My children are in so much need of support both academically but also emotionally. Mrs. Keuter the school counselor has provided unbelivable professional services to my family! More then could ever be expected from a counselor. Her wisdom and experience and educational background are just amazing! My kids love her! This is the quality we should have in every department! |
| 7/19/2009 | parent | I love the educational system at the school. I moved from a different school district and at that school my kids were doing fine according to the school. After I enrolled them in the 2nd semester at Benson. Benson was so far ahead that my son was behind that I had to hold him back. That shows me that the school system where they were at was no where near the advanced school system in Benson. I'm happy with there education there. |
| 10/19/2008 | parent | I love this school! My kids have been attending it for 4 years and I wouldn't place them anywhere else! |
| 5/6/2008 | other | Benson is not a prosperous town. It lives off Winter tourism and as a bedroom community to SierraVista and Tucson. Education for many of the families here is not important. So what you have is about 25% of the students want to learn I think that 25% of the students are active schoolastically, 25% don't object to being taught. Then there is 25% the will not do the work and the last 25% that noy only will not do the work, but is disruptive and antagonistic. much of the extracurricular activities take money and school budgets are very tight. I think they do a good job considering the funding and demographis they find themselves in. |
| 4/2/2008 | parent | I just love Benson Schools. I have had extreme success at this school versus other schools in the area. Both teachers and administration are attentive to the needs of the kids and listen to parents concerns. If a problem occurs the administration is quick to olve the problem. They are strict on their policies and eager to look at alternatives to the childrens learning if the current environment is not conducive to the students needs. Over the past few years Benson has undergone many staffing and administrative changes and everything they have done so far has been more than I could ever expect. Benson tries hard to keep up with everything offered at a large school, yet they remain a close knit small town environment. |
| 2/16/2008 | parent | I am a parent of a child attending Benson school as well as someone who also went to this school. When I graduated from Benson Middle school did start in the 5th grade but lunches were longer and there was still our 'playtime' but that was many years ago and the govener was not such a butthead.Yes I do believe that Benson does need some improvements, such as listening to our childern when they are pushed around instead of telling them that they should not tattle on each other and send the child who finally stands up for himself to the office. I do not agree with the fact that kinders have 20 mins. to eat lunch and middle and high schoolers have 30 mins to an hour for lunch. This school as well as all are not allowing our kids to be kids.I hope this doesn't affect the dropout rate. |
| 8/21/2005 | parent | The grades K-6 are geared somewhat slower than should be. The school claims to offer advanced teaching but fails to deliver. More importance is placed on lunch, snacks and recess than on actual academics. A great many of the students also experience problems with racism and bullies. The school does virtually nothing to address these problems outside of writing procedures in a book. Children who need special services are not given the needed help but are instead forced into a lower grade until such a time that they acquire specific deficient skills. This often means one grade for 3 or more years. This makes it hard on the child mentally. |
| 8/21/2005 | parent | This school has no respect for anyone. My children attend this school and do not even have textbooks. The school claims to provide all materials for class and then sends home a two page list of things for you to buy for 'the classroom use'. Girls are regarded as slow and boys as unteachable. Racism is rampant. Teachers are low educated. Staff is rude to parents in a condasending way. |
| 4/19/2005 | parent | This school is not a good school at all. I would not put my kids in this school if I had a choose. If they don't know you they treat you with no respect you are nobody to them and they treat your kids the same way. They don't care about education they just care about the goverment funding. If you have a another school to send your kids to do it don't pick Benson. |
| 8/6/2004 | parent | It would seem instead of solving problems, benson keeps adding more complications. I do support my children and their teachers, but feel a lot of wrongs are being committed. Changing 5th grade to middle school is a bad move. Who are the people making these brilliant decisions? We have an overweight society, so let's take away our kids' recesses? 30 Mins for lunch? More than likely it'll be more than just my son running out to have as much time to play as possible and we know what empty stomachs do to a student's grades. Unless you're related to the principal of course. In the 3rd grade, her son was frequently allowed to go to the office and bring back soda and chips and eat them in front of the rest of the class, including my son. That was fun to explain, thanks ms principal. |
| 10/15/2002 | | The communication with the school has been so beneficial for my household. Working with the teacher has also helped me to keep a tight rope on things at home as well in regards to their education! I am very thankful for the schools efforts and abilities to communicate well! Communication is the key to successful learning! |
