11/27/2006studentI have been at Solon since the 1st day of 5th grade... It has gone through plenty of changes but never really really bad. I am currently taking high school level math and all other core classes at the 8th grade level. I was head cheerleader 3 years running! Although this will be my last year because I will not be attending next year because I will be in High School! I would strongly recommend sending your student there. There are small class sizes and teachers who care and do not expect anyonee to be perfect.
9/14/2006teacherSolon Academy has been through various changes, but this school has created a learning environment rich in diverse activities, excellent teachers, and learning experiences that enrich students lives.
5/9/2006parentThe school is great school. It may be small but its stilla great school. The children learn what they need to learn and if they strugle they csan get help which is great. Solon is a great school for anyones child.
5/6/2006parentSince the last director left at the beginning of the school year there has been a high turnover of teachers. I decided to take my children out at that time due to academic issues. If you have a child who wants to go to the Senior academy, look at different options. It's a sad situation, but unfortunately Solon is mostly interested in the students up to 6th grade.
1/12/2006parentMy child attended this school for one semester last year. The hopes were that the smaller student/teacher ratio would contribute positively, but high turnover amongst teachers and administration made this a disastrous experience.
3/31/2005parentI would strongly urge parents to reconsider before enrolling their child in this school. The administration and teachers have become sub-par and believe it is not their job to motivate their students. We have been loyal to this school for 5 years, and have been sadly disappointed in the schools gradual decline. Our son was in the 7th grade this year 2004/2005 and we have tried to stick it out. Although the preach strong parent, teacher, student involvement - there isn't any. The teachers want perfect little clones that they do not need to work with in any way. Keep looking, you will be failing your child if you send him/her to this school.
9/11/2004parentI would not recommend SSA. ---from a former PTA officer
8/6/2004parentI removed my child from this school because there was no two way communication between the principal and the parents. There did not seem to have a clear and defined picture of how the upper grades were going to be conducted which left me thinking that there would not have quality education for my child.
7/6/2004parentThe school's turnover is huge and I can't count on a competant director being in place for any period of time. My kids have learned a lot here, but unfortunately, the personnel issues have forced us to seek another school.
5/11/2004parentSolon Senior Academy is the best charter school any child can attend. They have small class rooms so they have the teacher's individual attention when they don't understand something in class. This is the first year our daughter has attended Solon Senior Academy and she has done outstanding in her school work. She loves going to school everyday and has made lots of friends. We also like that it's a uniform school and the staff is always thoroughly up with the students and following the uniform rule. We definately are going to send our daughter back there next year and the years to come. It's a great school with teachers/staff who care about the students!
5/8/2004parentOur daughter has attended Solon since the 1st grade. We have experienced many changes over these many years. Her academic succcess has been outstanding! The teachers are fabulous! Their main objective is to make sure each child reaches his/her best potential in all areas. Solon offers a nutritious lunch program, sports, student council, an active PTA, cheerleading, and after school 'clubs' to join. A very active, establishe Girl Scout troop will be moving to Solon next school year (our daughter is a member). The leadership now in place is very strong and participatory. Vicki Raney(principal) has a very clear ouline of where Solon is headed. We are very pleased with Emma's success at Solon and will be returning for the upcomming school year.
5/7/2004parentThis is my sons first year at Solon Senior Academy. He has benifited greatly by the small teacher to student ratios and the personal attention he recieves from his teachers. He loves going to school. Because each student is tested and placed in a class to meet his grade level of that subject, means that he is always challanged. Solon has a positive approach to each students development and provides it in a safe, secure environment. There are some bad schools out there. We had the unfortunate experience of my son being in one of them. I wish someone had told us about Solon before we learned the hard way. Solon is a parents and a childs wish come true.
5/6/2004parentSolon Senior Academy has been a great place for my daughter to learn. There is excellent structure during the day; from Science class to Art, as well as one of the finest Computer Labs around! Homework is checked and parents sign off weekly. Getting from one class to another - on time - is easy! My daughter looks forward to seeing the many friends and teachers she has made contact with. Go Solon!
5/5/2004parentWe are very pleased with SSA. Our kids do well academically as well as socially. They have incredible educational opportunities with the Smartlab as well as some of the wonderful field trips such as Exchange City through Jr Achievements. The small class size have enabled the teachers to get to know my children and their personal educational needs. The teachers are professional and caring individuals that want their students to succeed on many levels. They work with them to keep achieving high goals as well as assisting them in areas where they may struggle to master the material. We have had several teachers tutor our kids before and after school. Any of our concerns have been address quickly and compassionately. The Director and her staff are wonderful. They make a very strong team. We are very happy at Solon and will continue to educate our children there. highly recommend.
5/5/2004studentSolon Charter School staff and programs have been a major turning point in the lives of my children. I have a sixth and a seventh grader that started at Solon mid-year after several years of frustrating and heartbreaking events in traditional public schools. Solon has helped to rebuild my children's academic progress and rebuilt their self-image as successful students! I also appreciate the value of having the students wear uniforms. It has allowed all kids to perceive each other as equals, and having 'free dress' days as rewards allows them to express their individuality as a welcome reward for hard work. I highly recommend Solon Academy to those parents that are looking for real staff involvement, academic programs that provide challenges and weekly feedback, and positive values that will help our children grow up to be caring and responsible adults.
5/5/2004parentSolon Senior Academy has embraced my child's needs both academically and socially. The school offers small classroom sizes, as well as a hi-tech computer lab. The staff and faculty have come together to create a positive team environment and their positive attitudes are reflected in the classroom.
5/5/2004parentMy children love this school! Even when they are sick they want to go to school! Their SAT9 test scores have gone from the mid 70's while attending public school to 95% and up in every subject that is tested since attending Solon. I, as a very involved parent, have come to greatly appreciate the care of the teachers and office staff. These people really care about the children as if they were their own. The discipline techniques used are well within reason and are also kept at a level that is acceptable to parents, students as well as the administrators! We have very involved parents at this school. It truly is the type of learning environment in which to have your children!
5/5/2004parentWe are just completing our first year at Solon Sr. Academy. We will return next year! Solon offers what few schools can: smaller class size, an emphasis on traditional subject matter and an environment where a strict code of behavior is enforced. We have seen tremendous growth in this school this year as the administration strives to offer students and parents the best. Under the leadership of Vicki Raney, Solon students are recognized and rewarded for outstanding character, academics and performance. Objectives and expectations for each class are clearly stated and adhered to. Because of the small teacher to student ratio, students are given much more of the teachers time and attention. We have been very pleased with our child's 7th grade experience.
