7/5/2012parentDream come true! I have had the pleasure of knowing this school since its beginning also. Despite others reviews.....I have known the same heart and soul to be running the show throughout. That heart and soul makes for some pretty happy kids :)! You won't find another school like it. I grew up in a small town with a small town school. No matter how hard we try to "improve" the educational system the goodness seems to take us back to our roots; when 1 teacher could nurture 10 students...... not puppet master 30 students. It takes a village to raise a child and that is what Sierra Oaks has created....a Community School.
7/5/2012teacherSweet little school. I give an above average grade because I have known this school since its beginning. I have watched the people come and go. I welcome the graduates back and listen to their tales and they remind me of what an amazing time they had at Sierra Oaks. This was the school that taught them how to snowboard or wake board or climb the highest peaks. Yes, we so not offer all the great benefits of a larger school and our staff sometimes stay and sometimes go but our students remember the experiences with a smile on their faces. Yea, Sierra Oaks. Thanks for offering the community a creative mix of modern technology, personalized education, the arts and old fashioned one-room schoolhouse values.
7/4/2012parentTHis is a sad little school that needs to close already. Why do they constantly get rid of all the teachers and admin? What is REALLY going on there...?
7/4/2012parentThis place has a super high turn over rate..teachers come and go so fast there must be a revolving door. Makes you wonder what is going on there...
6/20/2011parentI am writing in resposne to a post stating that the parent wouldn't give this school one star. I have had 3 students attend Sierra Oaks School and have nothing put praise. One of my children excelled beyond belief and actually was able excel so much that he skipped 8th grade. How amazing is that. Then I have another child who just graduated from Sierra Oaks and is also excelling more then I could ever ask. My other child who will be in second grade was doing second grade work while he was in 1st grade. In regards to the comment about volunteers we have so many they run into problems about where to put them. For all the extra activities the school does we could not do them without our volunteers. We have volunteers who do not have children here. I am thankful that we have such wonderful parents that want to volunteer weekly. I praise this school for giving my children everything they need to succed and have done so! This school ROCKS!!!!! Love the teachers too! My kids admire them greatly and talk about them all the time.
6/20/2011teacherAs a teacher at Sierra Oaks, I would like to set the record straight about negative reviews that have been written on this site. Here is the truth: We have 5 mixed grade classes, each with no more that 15 students. Our student cap is only 72. Each classroom has a Smart Board and at least 3 computers. We have a technology lab with 15 computers, and the students use Rosetta Stone as their language program. We use Accelerated Math and Saxon Math. We use Superkids for the lower grade s reading program, and literature based reading for the older. I teach 4th grade, and every 4th grader met or exceeded on the Science AIMS. We just put on a drama production at a local community theatre that raised over $1,000. That money was used to send our graduating 8th graders on a trip to Magic Mountain. We do 4 incentive trips, and have curriculum related field trips. We are a Peace building school, and practice a Make-It-Right program. We do community service programs. As of May 2011, every teacher had a Masters Degrees in Education or Educational Leadership. Our students are happy. Hum sounds like we are doing something right?
12/17/2010otherI was a former student of Sierra Oaks School and I was provided with an excellent education. I am currently a senior at Canyon Del Oro High School and have been doing really well. I have taken multiple Advanced Placement classes (AP or Pre-AP) throughout my time in high school. I was also able to take part in many different sports during my time at this school and when I went into CDO - a school with very competitive sports - and l was able to make the varsity swim team all four years. I began my time at Sierra Oaks in third grade. I automatically felt challenged academically. I actually ended up skipping the 8th grade because I was so advanced. The school will give back what you put into it - if a student doesn't try, they won't learn. The schools curriculum has a basic outline, but is flexible for excelling or lagging students so that they all can learn at a pace that suits them, but also makes sure they learn everything that they need to learn. I am now going back to the school on Wednesday to help tutor children with their math. They are supported and taught in a way that can help them learn and be academically strong.
12/10/2010parentIf you have a special-education child DO NOT send them here. They will not receive services. If you want your child to feel safe while at school DO NOT send them here. They look the other way and have been known to leave students unsupervised. If you want your child to have the Best education, DO NOT send them here. They have underdeveloped, non research based curriculum.
5/27/2009parentIts a wonderful community school that has helped my children's education and confidence. This school opened up a whole new world of reading, music and math for my kids.
3/29/2009parentNot a good school after previous admin left. Turned into a very bad school. All they care about over there is money. They don't care about their students at all. Dont send your kids there if you want them to have a good education.
