6/28/2012parentOK, This School might be good for parents who wants their kids to be pushed to the limit and have the child dread going to the school, There is no overall development for the kids. Common This is Just Elementary School,Do Not Over Push your kids they might burn out before middle or high school. And By the way I am an asian parent :-)
3/5/2012parentThis is the best school. I have seen my child developing the best personality traits here. Mr. Wu is the best principal I have ever seen. He is totally dedicated and a great role model. I feel lucky that my child as well as me as a parent had an opportunity to be under his leadership. The teachers are wonderful too and my child loves to go to school every single day.
3/27/2011parentIt's very good! My child gets educated really well! The field trips are fun, too!
6/11/2010parentMr. Wong, the principle & the teachers are really excellent!!! The best!!! I would not send my kids anywhere else.
5/12/2010parentL.P.Collins is a Excellent school, Teachers are excellent, API of the school is rising every year. Principal Wong is a excellent administrator now will have to wait and see how the next Pincipal is going to be as Mr.Wong is retireing.Sad that Mr.Wong has to retire. its a excellent school with mixture of both academics and other activities.
3/15/2010parentMy kids goes to Collins ,it's true!!!! the previous principle was real mean ,but !!!!the recent one is the best, very nice ,super friendly ,my kids love him and we sure love everything about our school
10/9/2009parentFirst of all, the principal and staff are so enthusiastic. They are always trying to find new and creative ways to teach the children. The kids are well rounded and enjoy being at school. It's a great school to have your children in.
9/15/2009parentL P Collins is a great school. And I am proud of it to be a part of it .
9/15/2009parentI think that teachers and staff work well together. Parent involvement is growing. PTA sponsors great programs like Destination Imagination and Reflections. The kids are receiving a well-rounded education, including art, music and physical education.
9/15/2009parentThis school has the right balance of academics and enrichment. There are after school enrichment programs like Chess, Spelling Bee, Destination Imagination and Garden Club. The PE and Music sessions are loved by the kids. The 4th graders do an awesome musical presentation of the Gold Rush period in history while the 5th graders re-enact the American revolution with costumes and sets of that period. There are science trips too. My kids love to be in this school !!
9/15/2009parentMy kids love this school. It has a right balance of academics and personality growth. There are after school programs like Chess, Destination Imagination, Spelling Bee and Garden Club. The Music, Art and PE sessions are great. Kids in 4th grade to a musical presentation of the Gold Rush period and kids in 5th grade re-create and re-enact the American revolution period with costumes and sets from that period. We love being a part of Collins Elementary School !!
9/11/2009parentThis school only cares about turning out little machines. They do not foster imagination. My child's teacher does not teach art because she say's that she cannot do art. This is a horrible example to my child. My child also regularly has 3 hours of homework, that he has not been told how to do. The hard work of the parents is what keeps this school going.
3/3/2009parentVery good. My child learns a lot from here.
3/3/2009parentFriendly staff, good teachers. Impressed by SAT scores, and my child says that they learn a lot in a fun way.
2/26/2009parentIf it were not for the extreme amount of help I give at home I do not know if my child would be learning anything. When I volunteer, my child's teacher seems to spend most of her day dealing with discipline problems and not teaching.
9/4/2008parentWe have been pleasantly surprised by this school. The academics and physical ed is well balanced, and the amount of homework is very age appropriate. The pricipal is always around campus, and teachers are encouraging to the kids. We love this school.
6/8/2008parentThis school provides fairly good academics. Students are bright and parents are involved, so scores are high. Like most schools in the district, we are underfunded and everything in Silicon Valley is expensive so my son does not have resources schools in other parts of the country take for granted like a full-time nurse, music instructor, and gifted coordinator. This means it's harder to take care of the whole child. Nevertheless, the school does OK.
8/29/2007parentWe moved from a Private school to Collins. It had been a great school in providing all round development and building balanced individuals. One improvement teachers could focus and help the children is to build leadership and team qualities by promoting group interactions, presentation and team sports.
9/10/2006parentNew principal is good....very active and energetic. Hope this year the Principal and the teachers focus on improving the students STAR results.
8/28/2006parentVery much disappointed this year. Teachers have less concentration on academics and more on drawing and coloring.
8/8/2006parentThis school has been a very big disappointment to us. Inadequate supervision on the playground. Principal sets the tone for an utter lack of leadership and teacher support. The students might maintain good STAR scores, but my opinion is that it comes more from parental effort(and very high academic expectation)than that of the school. You have a population of kids who are pressured by their parents to perform and this stress might account for some of the bullying that my child was subjected to on a daily basis. Requests for assistance with this issue went unaddressed. Frankly, anyone who wants to move to Cuppertino based on glowing (realtor) reports of outstanding schools would fair better in a another less expensive area where they would be better served by a private school.
5/21/2006parentThe school is great This school has great art and PE teachers which is not always the case for elementary schools
1/26/2006parentAn ordinary average school which you might think of when you hear a good school with good score. The teachers are nice and work hard. My child so much adores one of the nicest among them. He likes the caring principle, too. Their music class is just wonderful. The PTA offer some before/after school clubs for their enrichment. My child belongs to their running club which succeeded in nurturing joy of exercise in my child, making him healthier, happier, and more self-confident. One thing I don't like of the school is lack of consistent supervision. As is often the case of public schools, some children are very mean, and they pick on weaker children during recess time, when their teachers are not there with them. Yard duty teachers don't know the children as well as their room teachers do, and the room teachers have to judge only by what they hear.
11/25/2005parentThis is a great school. The staff is very friendly and teaching is very good.
9/23/2005parentThis schools has the best mix of great teachers, students & active parents. Teachers are good in Maths & English . Homeworks, academic activities, academic field trips are very good. Unlike Faria & Portal, Collins has the right mix of asians & whites, giving an opportunity to kids to mix & learn from each other. Their weekly music, art, sports programs and the teachers are good. Kids really love these programs. Starting from Principal to teachers, everybody encourages parents involvment. Lot of parents are involved in PTA, class level activities, in the field trips, lunch time, school traffic control & several other activities. One thing I do want to mention is that I think both the principal(Ms. Barret) & the teachers should put put some extra efforts making the current academic programs more effective to increase Collins API level. I would really love to see school API to be between 990 - 1000.
8/20/2005parentI agree with one of the parents' review. Collins has good teachers. But the priciple is not kind. She has no loving heart to the students. That's the drawback of the school.
6/22/2005parentThis was my first year at Collins Elementary. I am extremely satisfied with the overall quality of the school. The teachers work hard to bring out the best in each child. And my child loves to go to school. My child is an English language learner an I have been impressed by the vocabulary increase he achieved in a year. The principal is a great leader and is well respected both by children, parents and staff. Parents are encouraged to participate to school activities and find a very collaborative environment to foster new activites (e.g. Collins Clubs) to further complement the children experience.
4/1/2005parentMy son is going to this school and he is very happy here. Recently we got approval for portal school.
2/6/2005parentGood school, meets or exceeds academic standards. they have proper balance in studies , arts drametics and sports.
5/13/2004parentCollins is a school that gives your kids a great education, and a principal that challenges the parents, the kids and the teachers to strive to be the best. I haven't found the prinicpal hard to work with at all. We couldn't be happier with Collins!
5/4/2004parentA great school over all. The principal is difficult to work with. But a good education if you don't cross her path.
4/17/2004parentCollins has wonderful teachers and a wonderful facility. The principal is very abrasive though. That's the only drawback with the school.
3/9/2004parentThe optional Mandarin Immersion program run by this school is great. The participating students learn to read and write Chinese regardless of their ethnic background.
9/25/2003parentGreat school!...lot of fun and my son loves this school and teachers. Collins has good teachers, facility, curricular activities and last but not the least good principal.
8/3/2003parentA great school - if you can afford a house in the neighbourhood. It was most wonderful exepreince for my child to be part of this awesome school.
