| 7/24/2012 | other | I felt like the teachers did not care about the students, but only there money. |
| 6/30/2012 | other | Although this school is very diverse, and some teachers care about the students,I personally did not like the school.I went to this school five years ago.My GPA was between3.6 to 3.3 throughout my entire four years. The ESL students are not the problem in school; however, the teachers are the problem. There are a few who do lecture very well. I took AP classes in this school. |
| 4/5/2011 | parent | very educated and responsible students, the activities are great and I think students can really learn in this enviroment |
| 7/24/2010 | parent | My daughter did all four of her high school years here at ECVHS. It was an excellent experience for her. At first I was worried about the school, being that the test scores were low, but we had moved to the area and had no choice but to go there. She attended the summer introduction to the school in her freshman year. We learned about the great AVID program they have there, which all the teacher and staff support highly. She just graduated, with 37 college credits, thanks to her and her teachers. The teachers and staff are very warm and caring to the students. They have many activities to keep the kids involved, many of them after school and on the weekend (on their own time). If your high schooler is going to ECVHS have them be involved in the school activities, sports, asb, and they will do well. |
| 9/23/2009 | student | El Cajon Valley staff is very excellent and they do everything for student's good, which some students or parents may not like. I love all my teachers. |
| 5/12/2009 | student | ECVHS is a great school. People are quick to write it off without giving it a chance. They have AP and advanced classes and do a great deal to prepare students for college. Poor test scores are deceiving as there are many ESL students at the school, but there are plenty of programs and help for those students too. Being in a diverse and multicultural setting allows for new ideas and different points of view, which is what makes ECV so great. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still go to ECV. |
| 11/14/2008 | parent | Very rude staff members and if a child dose one thing wrong they do not give them a second chance. If you are behind they will tell you that you can catch up there but they make it so hard for you. This school is not a good school at all they are all full of lies. |
| 10/17/2008 | student | GREAT high school despite that they are not in a more affluent area and thus does not get as much money. This school has given me EVERYTHING that I have needed to to succeed in life and I will be eternally thankful! I was a first generation college student and if it was not for ECV and how much they cared about my success, pushed me, and if they had not given me the tools to deal with life, I NEVER would have been able to get my PhD. First person in my family to even attend college and ECV played a HUGE role in making that happen for me. I will always be grateful for what they have given me as they went above and beyond what teachers or a principal normally does for their students! |
| 10/5/2008 | student | I think El Cajon Valley is one of the best schools i've ever attended, there's a great environment, a lot of people from many different countries and, it is great because you learn a lot from them. I started my senior year at this school, now I know a lot of people that think different than me and speak other languages. People may think that this is one of the worst schools, but no. Actually they are making alot of improvements to the classrooms and to the classes. We have one of the best staff, the principal is very friendly and counselors are very attentive to our needs. I think this has been one of the best decisions I ever made. If you never try, then you'll never know. Go Braves! Class of 2009! |
| 8/30/2008 | student | the school is an excellent school with a great positive environment! |
| 7/3/2008 | parent | Poor quality of teaching, which is obvious in state testing statistics. I would not reccomend this high school to anyone. |
| 3/2/2008 | parent | I have two children at ECVHS, a senior and a sophomore. Over the past three years the teachers have been great, the children love their school and are very active in politics and sports. |
| 2/25/2008 | teacher | ECVHS has an excellent staff. I went to Grossmont in the early 90's and would have loved to have the teachers at ECVHS instead! The kids are very tolerant of each other...not too many clicks that force outsiders to become lonesome. The admin team is solid. You get a multicultural education attending ECVHS that you will not get as much of at any other school in the district. The key at any highschool is to get involved and surround yourself with good friends that will have a positive influence on you and your future. |
| 10/21/2007 | parent | ECVHS has been a excellent school in many ways. My daughter has excelled academically, and has loved being involved in extracurricular activities. This is her senior year and the best one ever for her. A/P classes, honors classes are all available to advanced students. If your student has goals and is focused...this school is an excellent choice. Life is what you make of it, and those in charge of this school have done an excellent job at offering opportunities for students to reach their goals. Keep up the good work ECVHS. We appreciate the improvements made to the campus too. All this and more have made me a firm believer that this school is #1 in the Grossmont School District...Go Braves! |
| 9/1/2006 | parent | This school is amazing! The security is truly top notch, and the staff really seems to care about the kiddos. I love the quick response the security staff has to issues. Even though our family has to live in a not so hot area of town, I feel my kids are in the best school around. In addition, the coaches are great and really keep the kids in something good for them instead of the unhealthy alternatives. Yes, there is gang activity, but it is handled well. Nothing but the best! If you feel your child isn't getting a good education here, I suggest you as a parent get more involved. |
| 12/5/2005 | parent | AT Cajon Valley High School, the administrators have worked extremely hard to ensure the safety of our students as well as to provide a curriculum and additional resources for students to succeed during their high school years. In addition, they have created programs that involve the parents and help us to relate with our children regarding academics, reinforce the lectures being taught and deal with possible negative influences. The teachers are very personable and actually care about whether or not the students learn. They have made themselves and their lesson plan available through email and or websites. I have also had an opportunity to meet with them, but to maintain year-round contact with them to help my child succeed. |
| 9/23/2005 | parent | My daughter is a student at evhs. She is a freshmen.one class shes taking is geography. Her teacheris no help to her at all. The staff waits 2 days before calling you back. The security is the only good thing I can sayabout this school. |
| 8/23/2005 | former student | As a graduate of ECVHS, I have been very successful... a college graduate with a big-girl job. There are several teachers who impacted the way I think, and whom I still keep in touch with. |
| 8/19/2005 | student | I believe that there should be more parent involvement. However, the quality of academic programs and availability of extracurriculars are excellent! |
| 7/18/2005 | former student | Great high school, not at all what anyone would expect. Lots of activities, but could use more money to pay for better equipment. Academic programs are great, encourage students to get into as much as possible. Parent involvement is fine, considering its high school, children should learn how to be responsible and learn how to be an adult by now. |
| 5/25/2005 | former student | The school reflects on the parent involvement. So if it seems that the schools is not succeedin then it shows that parents are not involved like the top rated schools. |
| 1/2/2005 | parent | Worst high school I've ever seen. gang area, no protection. my son fell through the cracks, even though i was there weekly to find out what was going on. he never finished school, got his GED a few years later. my daughter will NOT be going there. sad that the gangs run the world. children should not be afraid to go to school. |
| 6/20/2003 | | El Cajon Valley High School has a reputation of being a bad school! Sorry, to disappoint, but I have 2 sons there, and plan for both my daughters to go there as well. There have been minor problems here and there, but they were all handled quickly and with staff support. Academically, any school is what you make of it. It is unfair to go only by the test scores, because they take in factors that in many ways are unfair. For instance even though the majority of the English speaking (as a first language) scored well, the non-Engish speakers can bring the overall scores down low enough to cause the school to be listed as an improvement school, therefore offering the busing to other schools. If we could increase parental involvment, and get kids to join 'in' whatever, be it, drama, music, sports, yearbook, or any of the other multitude of activites our school would improve even more. El Cajon is a good school, there are problems, but no worse, and in many of the other area schools they are worse although those are the school people try to get into. Please come by, visit the campus, talk to the students and staff. You will see for yourself El Cajon Valley High School is a good school. If you suceed at El Cajon, you will succeed in life! |
