8/15/2012parentI must have been to seven or eight different schools for tour before deciding on NWMS. And after being to them, it really is true that not all the schools with "Montessori" in their title are really Montessori philosophy based. The director is a very passionate woman and the school really reflects that. As soon as you walk in, you can see it is such a happy environment, unlike the schools my child was previously in, which was also happy, but it was all play but no learning. After attending NWMS for three months now, my daughter is reading books at home. BOOKS! And in many other ways I have seen this school is helping develop her potentials. I can't describe how grateful I am in finding this school. If you want your child to be in a school full of love and learning, this is the school you want to look into.
8/2/2012parentHave you ever wondering what your child is learning at school? Have you ever wondering why the school is losing 1-2 teachers (the good ones) every 6 months? Have you ever asked the principal to show yourself the qualification of the "teachers and assistants"? Is your child having art? music? and all the enrichment programs that the school is offering to you? If you want to get "education" for your child you have to start interrogating. A parent like myself that did not interrogate... I got a cruel an too late answer.... My child was there from infant to preschool and believe me nothing - zero! was taught at NWMS. Please if you are a parent who care about "education" for your little ones, just call into a question.
7/27/2012otherthe principal let me have a lunch menu after the deadline and does lots of fieldtrips with us
2/7/2012parentMy son started here as a 3 year old in the preschool program and is on his 2nd year! I went on a serious hunt for preschools before deciding on New World and knew right away this was the spot for my child. Most of all he adores his teacher and really responds to the Montessori philosophy. The program offers everything for a well-rounded child such as practical life ,play, academics, music, art, etc. There is a sense of community with warmth and respect for the child. After touring elementary schools I am hard pressed to find anything comparable for lower and upper elementary as well.My son is soaring academically and I don't want him to lose the zest for learning which is being fulfilled here. The school director is warm, approachable and open to suggestions. A real gem!
4/29/2010parentThe school is a series of mismatched buildings with several play yards. My son and daughter have gone through the infant, toddler and pre-school programs and enjoyed every day. The teachers are very nice, and easy to contact if there are any concerns. So one can be involved with their child's development even while working full time as so many need to do these days. My son is in the elementary program now and he loves his teachers and is excited about each new think he is learning. The relationship a kid has with their teacher is so important to making learning an enjoyable experience and we are happy to have found the great teachers at New World Montessori. We hope to have both our children stay through elementary.
4/20/2010parentThis is a great school. My son has been here for two years in preschool. The teachers are really warm and nice. The principle is strict about montessori method and cares about students. We feel lucky to find this school on our first year living in LA!
4/19/2010parentThe teachers are wonderful and my child is blossoming. Although the physical structure could use a face lift, it is well maintained and the staff is wonderful. Plus, they are always fund raising to make it even better!
4/19/2010parentOur children are blossoming in this program, and they now approach learning with zeal.
4/19/2010parentNew World is a school like no other. The teachers and staff care for our children with such warmth and love. My daughter is constantly asking questions about the world around her and I am shocked at her academic growth.
4/12/2010parentMy son has been at this school for three years in the pre-school. His experience has been wonderful. I am amazed at the fact that he is reading chapter books in pre-school, he knows basic math concepts and geography. He can even name every country in South America. In pre-school! This school is very academic and embraces the Montessori method. The buildings are older and do not look fancy so if you are interested in asthetics, you'd probably want to move on. But if you are interested in substance, this is a wonderful school. The parents and children are very diverse, grounded and down-to-earth. No pretentiousness here. I think this school was a great start for my son's academic education. I do not know much about the toddler program, however, and the room there seems a bit muted. In general, this is a solid, academically-focused school.
3/4/2010parentf you are a working parent in West Los Angeles, this is the place to send your baby or tot. They have a year round program and long hours if you need it. Plus its a real school.
3/1/2010parentMy son is finishing his second year in the preschool program and will be the Lower Elementary this fall. I love this small and intimate school, the teachers really get to know each student and are there for them 100+%. It is a wonderful atmosphere were children are allowed to grow, learn and have a say in what they are learning. Awesom little gem of a school.
2/16/2010parentIn my opinion, if you are a working parent in West Los Angeles, this is the place to send your baby or tot. They have a year round program and long hours if you need it. Plus its a real school. My one year old came home on day three of school, grabbed his nose and said 'no..' My son started eating from a bowl and not from the table after a few days. My son is now 20 months old and already using the potty part- time. My son comes home happy. Whenever I add a toddler song to my ipod I find he knows 25% of the words already. Plus there is a toddler dance class on Thursdays. I feel lucky this place exists. If you want in, prepare to stand in line. There is a waiting list.
1/15/2010parentWe are grateful to a friend for recommending us this school. Since enrolling our daughter in elementary, we have noticed a remarkable progress in her, both academics as well as everyday discipline. We are pleased with the teacher, the management and the overall standard of the school. Be glad to recommend this to others.
12/19/2009parentI strongly regret having enrolled our child at New World Montessori School. Our child was singled out by some of the teachers who were consistently rude and even mean. The upper elementary lacks objectivity and lessons are taught without sufficient reference (i.e. the teacher's experience).
11/6/2009parentUnless your child is transitioning from their toddler program or WELL prepared for a structured school environment, don't waste your time. They have no patience or desire to help little ones assimilate to school. The teachers have horrible grammatical skills and a bad knowledge of the English language in general. VERY Disappointed in this experience.
5/29/2009parentMy son loves going to kindergarten (LE - Lower Elementary) here. He has made incredible progress in reading and enjoys all the subjects presented. The teachers are highly dedicated and have an amazing level of personal attention to each child. Through the Montessori system he has been able to learn at his own pace, which has allowed him to go much further than in the traditional academic environment he was in previously. Having mixed ages in LE has allowed my son to create strong friendships across grade levels and to both learn from and help out the other kids.
1/28/2009parentChild has been at school for over 1 year. Teachers in pre-school are caring and do a very good job. The elementary teachers are ok, but lack training. The school seems to have a high turnover of teacher assistants. One of the assistant teachers in the first grade is mean and very cold. Parents have complained about her, but principal doesn't care. Principal is all about money and doesn't address parents serious concerns. I pulled my child out this year. School would be good if the Principal cared about the students as much as she does about money and fees.
1/20/2009parentAfter visiting a good number of Westside preschools, we chose NWM. We are very pleased with it -- a good, down-to-earth, ethnically diverse school which uses authentic Montessori approach and materials in its multi-age classrooms. Very modestly priced compared with most local private schools -- the buildings are a bit worn but generally the property is pleasantly homey and nice grounds. The director Yasmeen is excellent -- knowledgeable and caring. There are 4 different preschool classes -- our child's teacher is fantastic (the assistant teacher is just fair, but probably what you'd expect for the pay.) We LOVE the 'no sugar' policy!!! We have been here about 1 1/2 years and plan to continue in the Kindergarten, and maybe beyond.
12/12/2008parentThe teachers at this school are amazing! My daughter is almost 5 years old and is excelling incredibly in every way in the lower elementary program. She has recently learned to write stories in cursive and loves to practice this for hours on end. The curriculum is very rich and balanced and the school also offers fun extra curricular activities and school events, performances, and carnivals as well. The children in the upper elementary class are even going to the Presidential Inauguration in January! I would highly recommend New World Montessori to anyone looking for an excellent education for their child.
11/12/2008parentAll of my children spent at least some time at this school. The teacher are good and were the reason we always returned, but the leadership of the school and the cost were the reasons we finally left for good.
8/19/2008parentOne of the great things about New World Montessori School is that they encourage excellence and a well-rounded person. You don't have to be concern if your child has a passion for solving some unique equations. The school will gently guide and direct your child into other activities and settings with the sole purpose of rounding and balancing your child s interests. The New World Montessori School encourages academic excellence, but requires your child to be engaged in athletic activities several times a week. The school Principal Ms. Yasmeen, created her vision and mission statement, guiding core values, and educational philosophy for her true and authentic Montessori School method. This method drives decision making and becomes her lighthouse for guidance, leadership and direction! In a time and society where many parents feel and express worry about the kind of start their children are receiving as they begin school, it is vital and
4/9/2008parentMy child has attended the infant and toddler programs and is now in the first year of preschool. The teachers are what make this school what it is. Every teacher she has had has been very loving and caring. They really adhere to the Montessori method and my daughter is becoming more confident, independent, and interested in learning every day. I'm very pleased with her intellectual progress and her developing social skills. I understand the comments about the lack of parental involvement. It is true that it is not really encouraged, but that hasn't stopped me from becoming involved anyway!
4/1/2008parentI have a son in the school and I am so disapointed in the teachers and leadership. My son will not be going again next year
2/17/2008parentSchool is okay...Director needs to listen to the parents more. unwilling to bend
12/31/2007parentThe teachers at this school are exceptional, especially in the Elementary Program, both the upper and lower program. If the Administration wasn't so tight with money the teachers could do much more. Working with what they have and with the lack of support from the administration I give them a great deal of respect. I look forward to my children reaching the upper elementary program. The teacher is high energy and creative.
9/19/2007parentThe Director can come across as 'cold' but she is committed to the Montessori method and quality education/teachers. Teachers are overall good and committed to their students. I think they are given a lot of leeway by the Director so they seem to enjoy this autonomy and trust which means better teaching/supervision for our kids. Facility could use some sprucing up but they seem to be always fixing things so I think maintenance of such a large school can be costly. Overall this school seems decent and I know my children are safe and growing here. Not a 'bells and whistles' facility but it is a solid place.
6/13/2007parentOur daughter went to New World Montessori on recommendation of two friends and we have had nothing but a very happy, better than expected experiences. Our daughter loved every day going to the school and she got easily admitted in a top High School because of the education received at New World Montessori. We have no hesitation in recommending this school for infants, toddlers, preschool and kindergarten as well as lower elementary.
3/5/2007parentI enrolled my son at New World based on a recommendation from someone whose daughter attended from age 4 to 7 and had a very positive experience. My son went there for nearly a year. I agree with the other parent, the administration is all about collecting fees and charge for everything possible.
2/21/2007parentGood school getting better every day -- excellent learning with high energy. The new lower elementary teacher is an exceptional Montessori teacher! And the primary teachers are wonderful, too. The facility is a bit older, but lots of nice outdoor play areas. You'll have to pay separately for every extra program, trip, etc. But it's worth it.
2/7/2007parentGreat school! I recommend this school to anyone. I love the campus. My son started when he was a toddler. For the three years he has been attending he loves going to school everyday. School staff and administration are very friendly and cooperative.
12/26/2006parentI had two children in this school, for year and half. The staff and administration were very cold. The education, is low. The school appears to have a future, but the administration, seems to only care about collecting money.
