| 6/2/2010 | teacher | Alliance Academy, like many East Oakland flat land schools, has had its challenges. What is unique about the current school are the many dedicated teachers who choose to teach there. This school has gone through many changes, but with some strong dedicated leadership, could be on the path to accomplish great things. The physical campus itself needs a lot of work, as well as the classrooms. However, this campus has ascended from the days of the original Elmhurst Middle School. That reminded me of East Side High in the movie Lean on Me. So despite being on the CA Persistently Failing Schools List, there are positive gains being made. Those gains can't be measured by test scores. There is also an excellent music program comparable to music programs in wealthier communities.
