| 11/4/2012 | parent | My son has attended LaSalle High School for three complete years and is a senior now. Interdisciplinary learning is happening within a course content (Jurassic Park is read in the Biology classes), between (English and History team up to teach a concept and cooperate on writing essays and through extracurrilcular activities (off site learning). Students are challenged in thier studies, whether they are placed in Advanced Placement courses, honors or additional electives that meet university entrance requirements. School is very transparent re: grading systems, homework policies and discipline policies. School spirit is exceptional. Students are accepting of differences and very supportive or each other. The LaSalle experience is what your make of it. All the components of a great school are in place at LaSalle. |
| 6/1/2012 | parent | I was very disappointed with La Salle. The academic standards are very low and the college admission prospects for La Salle graduates are much lower than the public schools. I moved my son to Pasadena High School during his junior year and I was pleasantly surprised to find that PHS had much better academic programs, and unlike La Salle, PHS did not have drugs on campus. What a waste of thousands of dollars of tuition paid to La Salle. This is a very mediocre school, and not suitable for students who aspire to attend UC level or higher colleges and universities. La Salle is appropriate as a bridge to PCC or other junior colleges, or to Cal State level schools. |
| 5/22/2012 | parent | My son is currently a junior. He statrted La Salle in the 9th grade. Both he and I love the school. The teachers are not only qualified but motivating. The principal, who is unfortunately stepping down this year, is that one of a kind individual who I feel privileged to have known. Every student from the most timid and studious to the the most outgoing and distracted has a place at this school. The school also puts its money where its mouth is. The school has undertaken to do everything possible to ensure that families, who have been affected by the economy, are offered reduced tuition are offered reduced tuition so that their children can graduate from La Salle. The junior/senior counselor at the school tenaciously keeps parents and students adviesed of deadlines for college testing and applications. He advises of summer internships, scholarshaps and enrichment programs. I made the mistake of allowing my daughter to attend South Pasadena High School. What a difference. I am happy to pay the tuition the tuition to La Salle and only wish I was able to contribute generously to the school to make it possible for more students to have this high school experience. |
| 3/10/2012 | student | my father attended la salle back when it was coed, and from what i can tell, it has gone extremely downhill since then. academics are comparable to a public school 7th graders. drugs are extremely prevalent in the school setting and the social scene is all about cliques. the athletics suck except for softball. also, the girls here and the girls at alverno (up the hill) are very catty with each other. |
| 6/20/2011 | parent | My son will be a Senior next fall and we simply love La Salle High School. This school offers advanced courses that other high schools don't have (Genetics, Biotechnology, Anatomy, AP Spanish Literature, etc.) The school is very well organized and teachers are always available to talk to parents or students. |
| 6/20/2011 | parent | Excellent school. Deans are very strict with attendance, uniforms, responsibility, etc. Parents can check every single class, grade, test, on line. La Salle HS offers all the help needed on SAT, ACT, and other requirements for College applications, etc. |
| 6/4/2011 | other | The school hired an expensive law firm to bully its neighbors; they continue with the same mentality as when I was a student there. A good place to go for kids that are in trouble and need to be trained as worker bees. |
| 4/4/2011 | parent | I will have both my children at La Salle next Year. We are very pleased with the academic of the school and it has been a wonderful experience. |
| 6/29/2010 | parent | An excellent balanced program. My student is very happy and excelling in school. His test scores are also very good. He calls La Salle " The school of heaven" |
| 5/9/2010 | student | I went to school here and graduated in the class of 2008. All of my siblings went to La Salle and I've seen the academics come a long way. The teachers are great. Some I have developed strong and lasting relationships. But like most of the reviews I would have to agree: the school is extremely cliquey. I was fortunate enough to have a great time with great friends all four years. Not the place for everyone, but if you have friends going into La Salle you should be fine. |
| 5/2/2010 | teacher | The school has done very well with the student athletes it has admitted over the years. It has more league championships and sport offerings than most other schools in the pasadena area. |
| 8/29/2009 | parent | The school talks a good game, but does not deliver. Boy's sports are horrible (except basketball) not in talent but in leadership at the sport, AD and overall philosophy handed down by the President and the top donors. Academically, there are several good teachers who care, there are many that have no clue what or how to teach. There are a lot of cliques and a lot of disrespect. Tough year for La Salle students to get into UC schools. You are really being prepped for Private University at twice the price. |
| 8/14/2009 | student | I started at the summer institute and have to say that I really love this school! Although I may be entering as a freshman, I took three classes during the summer and have found my teachers to be very encouraging, the students friendly, and the campus very beautiful. My second school of choice does not compare to La Salle. I'm extremely excited to join the Lancer community this fall! |
| 6/16/2008 | parent | La Salle is a great school, both my daughter and my son love the faculty and administration. Our yongest daughter will be attending La Salle this year. We highly recommend La Salle. |
| 3/17/2008 | student | The school looks great when you are visiting and stuff and everyone tells you great things, but once you actually go there, its not how it sounds. The kids are not very nice and it is very clique-y. THere arent that many activities to do-i dont like it very much. |
| 12/28/2007 | student | My teachers care about me and I know hat I am being prepared well forcollege. The administration gives me the opportunity to be involved in social justice programs. |
| 12/22/2007 | student | Expensive school but it' not worth it! I'm in my last year of high, I'm not challenge enough! |
| 12/20/2007 | student | Some of the subjects are not challenging for high schools.Students are not so friendly with the freshmen. |
| 12/2/2007 | student | There is a lot of cliques goin on around here. Teachers are average, as well as the principal. |
| 11/23/2007 | student | The teachers are dedicated and wonderful, all of the students like it. The classes are the perfect size and always engaging. The zero policy for drugs and alcohol is a one of a kind program. It's great how supportive everybody is, and there is something for everything. |
| 8/1/2007 | student | I will be entering La Salle High School in the fall as a freshman. I know many people who are attending, have attended, and will attend my school. Having just completed the summer academic institute, I have had a chance to live in the La Salle community on a day-to-day basis for a while. It was completely apparent from the first time my mother and I, as a prospective applicant, set foot into the school that La Salle is, for one, extremely organized. From the Open House to the Acceptance letters to sending Newsletters during the summer to keep you informed, La Salle is top-notch. In addition to being organized, La Salle has a beautiful campus. During summer school, you could see small birds nesting in the trees around the campus and hear the small chirps of baby birds as they were being fed. I am proud to be a Lancer! |
| 7/11/2007 | student | religion classes are a joke and some teachers don't care about the students. although most teachers are excellent. mr. miller being one of them. |
| 5/21/2007 | parent | I legitamitely liked this school when my daughter began attending it. Once in school though , she came home telling me how everyone was so cliquey and how a lot of the students mistreat their fellow peers. I was very mad so I decided to visit the school. When I got there as a normal visitor and not as an incoming parent, I saw how the school was so cliquey and how disrespectful the students there are. I did not want my daughter attending this school after I observed how the La Salle High School community really is. |
| 3/14/2006 | parent | My oldest daughter attended this high school and graduated in 2005. The administration is great, the facilities are beautiful and the curriculum is solid. The quality of individual teachers varies but appears to be gradually improving. |
| 8/13/2005 | student | La Salle is a great school. The academic possibilities as well as the religious environment allow for a vigorous learning experience. |
