| 8/25/2011 | parent | I'd like to add to my comment that this was a few years ago. The Sunday School teacher is no longer there but the point is, the principal at that time seemed unconcerned that this was going on. I'd like to again stress that the academics were not just good but very good and some of the "background" staff were actually very concerned and focused on each child doing well but the sad part is that some of the teachers ruin it for the rest of the staff. The liberal teacher I mentioned above is still there and seems to be at first harmless, very motivated and encouraging but unfortunately she has her own agenda and I overheard a few times her saying some things she should have kept to herself. Beware. (I'm not allowed to say her name but my words of advice: stay involved as much as possible!) |
| 5/29/2011 | parent | We are Coast Guard living off base but still chose Two Rock School. Mr Simpson is a wonderful principal who knows each and every child and parent. All teachers know all the kids even if they're never had them - about 190 kids this year I think overall K-6. The population is about 60% Coast Guard kids and 40% ranch families so it's a good mix. It's a small school but they do so much with what they have. My older child has an IEP and we are so happy with Susan Kelly, Resource Manager. For 4-6 graders with IEPs she is responsible for their core math and language curriculum and pulls them into small groups of 4 for this. My child thrived this year with the small group setting and is now showing more independence and we predict he won't need an aide next year at all. Great teacheres with a lot of years behind them, and a few new faces. Very, very happy. |
| 8/12/2008 | parent | Two Rock is a great school, with a caring staff, and superb Principal. I believe Mr. Simpson has brought a very positive change to the school with fresh ideas. If there is any thing I could have changed, it would be the relationship between parents and Teachers. It seemed that if you were not a regular volunteer, your contact with the Teachers was minimal. Overall, I consider my children very fortunate to have attended this school. |
| 4/20/2008 | parent | I Love this school! My daughter started this school this year. The principle is very invoved with the children and really cares. The rest of the staff from teachers to office staff are wonderful. The whole school feels like a family. The 3 rd grade teacher, Ms. Valentine is by far one of the best teachers that I have ever met. If your child needs extra help this school will go the extra mile. |
| 4/19/2007 | parent | I would agree that this school is a bit conservative and focused on test scores. The population of military families is high, which means both high parental involvement as well as old-fashioned view of discipline. I am extremely happy with 1st grade and personnel. Mrs Jones is a wonderful teacher! She sees the individual talents and needs of each child. Love the small and intimate setting. Great place to volunteer and get involved. We will miss this school when we transfer. |
| 2/1/2007 | parent | We experienced two rock for 2 years, and we found that there is a lack of connection between parents/children/teaachers. |
| 6/16/2006 | parent | I really liked this small school and my children did well here. The staff seemed to really care about the children and my daugher was able to receive extra help in the area that she needed. |
| 4/11/2006 | parent | My daughter is in kindergarten, and likes it. I have had a few issues with the teachers and staff regarding lack of respect for the individual. This school is fairly strict and conservative, which will fit many military families. I wish they were more accepting of each child's unique qualities. Small, local and safe school. Very focused on curriculum and test scores, not so much on articstic or intellectual abilities. Old school and authoritarian view over-all, not as authoritaritative as I wish they would be. Music and sports/PE is available in all grades, thanks to money raised by TRESEF, the 'new' pta. Not many extracurricular activities, due to the small size of school. I think parent involvement is high and many options for parents to volunteer, which is wonderful. |
| 1/24/2004 | parent | I attended this school back in 1977-1984 and have fond memories of going to school there. Now my kids attend this school and we love the small school atmosphere. |
| 8/26/2003 | parent | Both of my daughters attended Two Rock from Kindergarten through 6th grade. They received an excellent education from caring, well-trained teachers, and went on to successful high school and college years. |
