3/9/2012parentWashington is a great school. My child loves it. Today (Friday March 9 2012) there was a PTA party and my daughter told me to sign up for it 2 days before the party. Signing up makes her happy to go to the party and makes me happy to support. GO EXPLORERS, BIG BLUE!!
2/2/2012parentI won't lie. We tried to get our son out of Washington because of the school's reputation (mainly based on test scores). We couldn't get in to our school of choice, so we started here for kindergarten. We had a great year and this year decided to no longer petition to leave the school. The teachers and the principal are wonderful, caring, and so dedicated, and I'm proud of my son's academic progress. The events and programs are a lot of fun, and great community builders! There is talk of implementing a dual language immersion progrm. I've heard such programs enhance crtical thinking and multitasking- and of course second language acquisition! This is the school people are going to be lining up for!
9/2/2011parentWashington is a Great school !! my daugther loves to go to school everyday , the teacher are great, the principal always around smiling, Go Explorers !!!!!
10/29/2010parentI think that Washington Elementary is an excellent school. Coming from the east coast where the schools have consistently out performed California schools, I was very concerned about the education my children would receive. I'm pleased to say that they are thriving at Washington. I could not be more pleased with the education that they are receiving. The teachers and administration are excellent. Our principal has cultivated an atmosphere that is conducive to a positive learning experience and my children LOVE going to school everyday. When we first moved to California, we were in an awful school district where no one cared. My children were miserable: stressed out and crying every morning because they didn't want to go to school. Now, I feel blessed to be a part of the Washington community where my kids need for an excellent education, as well as a positive learning environment are met daily.
10/27/2010parentFunny, I just read the two recent reviews of this school & I couldn't disagree more. All of my children have attended this school, & unlike the previous reviews regarding the current principal I think the changes that have been made in the last two years are refreshing. I was tired of my school being the "underdog" in the district. The cultural diversity is a refreshing change compared to some of its counterparts in the district. We wanted our children to learn in an environment that matches the makeup of the community around it. The teachers are well trained and it shows. The administrative staff is caring & knowledgeable. And as for the principal, she has made major changes that have positively impacted both the students & the families . Her sense of pride in our school is unmatched. Stop by the campus and judge for yourself.
10/13/2010parentWashington has some very good teachers, however the principle is a huge disappointment! Zero people skills! If you have a "perfect" child, you might see the "sunny" side of her, but if your child has any issues at all, I found her to be dismissive, intolerant and condescending. She and my child's teacher pressured me over and over to medicate my child against my better judgement. I finally had to take my child out of this school. My child is thriving in the new school WITHOUT meds!!! Again, some of the teachers are great, but the best decision we ever made was to leave Washington.
5/25/2010teacher I am the principal of Washington school and I would like to invite you to stop by and visit our wonderful school. A school is a community made up of caring families and fantastic staff. Those of us that make up Washington school feel very lucky to be part of this great community. Parents are always welcome at school to volunteer and visit. Our teachers care about each and every child and many teachers choose to send their own children to Washington. We have high expectations for all of our students and work hard to meet those goals. My door is always open, so come in to visit, take a tour, and say hello. Vivian Ibarra Principal
11/15/2009parentI can't imagine my daughter would get a better education anywhere else. The teachers and programs at Washington are exceptional. This school just keeps getting better every year. Stop by for yourself and see what Washington has to offer.
9/23/2009parentMy son has been here sonce kindergarden and he's in 5th grade now. We've truly had a great experience here the past 5 years and I'm going to be sad to leave when we move on to middle school next year! The teachers and staff really care about our kids as does our new principal, Mrs. Ibarra. I've seen them go out of their way, time and again to keep making this school great. And I've made some great friends with the parents here as well. Our PTA is going strong with more and more parents getting involved and creating a great community experience for everyone. Washington Elementary ROCKS!
1/29/2009parentDon't get me wrong, Wahsington is still a great school to go to, because of the great teachers and support staff. But lately alot of things have been falling through the cracks, especially discipline. Mr. Torres wake up before this school's already tainted reputation begins to crumble.
1/29/2009parentWashington gets 5 stars for being a wonderful school. Principal Torres is a truly inspirational leader.
8/30/2008parentNot only am I a teacher at Washington, but both of my daughters have either attended or still attend my school. I have taught at other schools and can honestly say that Washington has the best and most qualified staff of them all! Every single teacher and paraeducator at our school share a common interest--student's education. Unity, teamwork and an atmosphere of family is very obvious as you walk through our campus. I wouldn't want to teach any where else!
8/27/2008parentWashington Elementary is the best kept secret in Redondo Beach. There are many programs for the children including, Hands on Art, Hands on Science, Music, Learning Center. The Learning Center is great because even if a child does not qualify for services through an IEP they still may qualify to receive help from the Learning Center. The API scores are a little lower than some of the other Redondo Beach Schools but it may be because we have 22% english learners as opposed to Jefferson that has 7% and the next highest percentage of English language learners is at Birney with 17%. Look up the information yourself on this site.
9/12/2007teacherI have been teaching at Washington Elementary for several years and have to say that I have never worked at a school with more qualified educators. We have a wonderful staff that provides a welcoming and safe environment. The reason we have had so many teachers leave is because they have either gone out on maternity leave or have moved out of the area. We are very pleased with Mr. Torres as our principal. Washington is a fabulous school with great students and teachers. Go Explorers!
7/13/2007parentI'm so sad that our principal cares more about appearances than the actual students and teachers, my son's classroom was full of bullies and chaos. The teacher was so powerless and lack of skills in how to deal with these bullies and parents that I was very worried about my son's safety all year. I hope this coming year my son will have a great year and a dedicated and supportive teacher that will help him grow as a human being and to be safe and I also hope that Mr. Torres put some effort in respecting parents and children alike.
5/1/2007parentMy daughter attended this school from Kindergarten almost through 5th grade. We found that anytime we had issues regarding grades, teaching, bullies, we found the principal to have a defensive attitude. We are much happier at the new school where academics, safety, and fun, are equally important. My daughter also had a new teacher almost every year at Washington. It says alot when a school cannot retain staff. Clearly Mr. Torres is more interested in his school's appearances than a good education for his students.
4/22/2007teacherWashington has a wonderful sense of a family atmosphere. I love how they have so many programs to meet the needs of all students and engage community members as well, such as the family nights, where teachers host an evening for students and family to do an educational activity, like Reading Night or Math Night. My experiences with the principal, teachers, and staff have all been very positive. Everyone is friendly and helpful. This is an all around great school. Go Explorers!
8/31/2006parentThe best well rounded elementary school in the district. Awesome principal, great teachers, and the best support staff, prepare our kids to be the best 'Explorers' they can be.
5/5/2006parentMy two kids attended this school since kindergarden , one in adams middle school 6th grade now, and one still in Washington 4th grade, I would say, it is one of the best schools in the area, teachers are great. My kids were very happy, they have music class, parents volenteer in hands on Art program which kids love. I would rate it 5 stars
2/17/2005parentThis is an extraordinary school with academic programs created and geared for individual strengths and weaknesses. An accelerated, experimental school of sorts. The recent rennovation of the school is sparkling with healthy computer, music, art and science departments. A terrific mix of ethnic diversity in children and teachers seem thrilled to work at this school. If there was anything to say it would be the bullying and scare tactics of some students. Recess, playtime and any other loosely supervised time seem to run amuck with bullies who use serious profanity, obnoxious, rude behavior and a general unkindness to the fellow student.
