| 10/27/2011 | parent | My child attended this school for one year. We were drawn to the beautiful campus, the religious and academic standards we were striving for our child. Within a few months were were receiving feedback from our child of boredom, and the classes moved at a slow pace . Teachers gave just repeated "busy" work below grade level to fill time for him. After many conferences with teachers and principle we were decided SJDL was not a good fit for our child. From the beginning we did not have a good experience at SJDL, the staff was not friendly towards our family when we told them we were leaving at the end of the school year. We judged a book by its cover e.g. beautiful campus, but received the true contents. |
| 9/12/2011 | parent | As last year s Home and School President, I would like to address some of the previous comments. SJDLS offers a laptop program for the children (MAC) as well as a MAC lab and a PC lab. Children in grades K-8 are offered computer class as part of the core curriculum. My daughter, a freshman @ Great Oak High School (as well as 5 of her peers), has been accepted to the IB Program as well as CSF due to the excellent overall experience at SJDLS. The goal of fundraising at our school is to not only bridge the gap between what tuition covers and what does not, but also give back to our worldwide community. We have had food drives, worked at soup kitchens, raised money for Michelle s Place and donated thousands of dollars to the neediest of students at our sister school in Mobokoli, Africa. Our tuition rates are among the lowest in the area and have not increased in over 3 years due to the generosity of our parents and community at large. Some children at our school receive discounted tuition, on a per needed basis, due to this community outreach. I am blessed to note that we have enrolled almost 70 new children this Fall! |
| 9/4/2011 | parent | I have had older children at public schools and have my younger children at this school for many reasons. While for the most part the education is the same as area public or private schools, the knowledge that they are in a good enviornment trumps everything else that may be lacking. If you are not happy at this school - you should definately try others - you will find that you are most likely not happy there as well. The Sisters of the Company of Mary have proven that they care about the children's education. They try to keep children interested by bringing in extra curricular / after school classes. Fundraising goes hand in hand with having your children in a private school. Public schools are certainly feeling the pinch of the times and if I need to fundraise to keep the quality up for my children - I am happy to do so. |
| 9/3/2011 | parent | This school is exactly what I was looking for for my child. The teachers are dedicated. Many of the teachers have their own chiildren at this school. The curriculm is very strong and the administration continues to stay abreast of the newest technologies and curriculm. The homework load is preparing the kids for high school. In regards to fundraising. Most parents know that private schools depend on fundraising money. This school in particular has the lowest tuition in the area because the administration truly wants to help out their families. Thanks to past fundraising - lpads and macs have been added this year. Parents that need help financially can always talk to the administration and their fundraising obligations can be waived if need be. No child is excluded on purpose and certainly not punished. |
| 5/16/2011 | parent | Lovely campus and very strong in academics. A lot of homework but it really pushes the kids to their fullest potential. Strict yet loving teachers and friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately there is not after school lessons such as music or art and for a private school I did expect to have that as an option. There is not a laptop program so they are still lacking in exposure to the latest forms of learning and communication via the computer. The fundraising is excessive. If your child does not sell enough of their monthly fundraiser then they are instructed to wear their uniform on a given day and not allowed to wear their everyday fun clothes as form of punishment. So your child will be ostracized for not meeting fundraising goals. Global or community awareness/ charity is not emphasized. |
| 9/17/2009 | parent | Love this school. Teachers are wonderful, solid curriculum and a great community to belong to. |
| 8/19/2008 | parent | CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE SCHOOL! Curriculum is strong and responsive to the needs of the individual child. {That includes needs on both ends of the spectrum; those who are academically challenged and those who NEED TO BE challenged academically.} Curriculum is under constant review for fine tuning & refinement. Students consistently test well above national averages in all areas. Catholic values are taught AND LIVED on daily basis. Discipline is well maintained in loving manner. Children are taught to be responsible with personal standards which are high but attainable. Administration & teachers are always available and responsive to valid concerns of parents. There is very much a family atmosphere at the school with strong parent involvement which is welcomed & appreciated by the administration. Campus & buildings are well maintained. Safety and security of the children is primary. Send your child/children here! |
| 10/15/2007 | parent | I like the school, but there is an excessive amount of homework. |
| 6/16/2007 | parent | It is a good school up to about 5th grade (good to great teachers). Spanish is required in all grades. From 6th to 8th grade they lack a challenging curriculum for the serious student. An 'enrichment' program has been implemented for 'low performing' students through the public school district. It has not yet developed a serious science program. Math is ok, but the books are weak. They now have a math program that is more up to speed with the public schools for 6th through 8th grade. Good for the average student wanting a catholic environment,(mass is once a month due to a lack of priests). Administration seems unable to implement good curriculum. You get a beautiful atmosphere, but weak curriculum and an ok religious environment. |
| 9/20/2006 | parent | I have 3 kids and 2 of my kids went to this school for 3 years. I realized that the education that I'm getting is the same as what's in the public school due to the lack of emphasis on the catholic education. The school is beautiful don't get me wrong, but the curriculum is no different than the public school. I sent my kids to this school to get a catholic education and they didn't get it. Now my kids are attending a different catholic school and am very satisfied. It's up to you, pay the high tuition but get a so-so catholic foundation for your kids OR go to another catholic school for less but worth every penny. It's a waste of money. |
| 7/30/2006 | parent | St. Jeanne's is a wonderful school. This is our 5th year at St. Jeanne's and I too, could not imagine sending my children anywhere else. I can rest assured that my daughter is being challenged by all teachers. Her grades prove it! The school definately has many activities for all, including parents. Speaking of parents, I don't think that this school would be around or doing well, if it wasn't for our parent involvement. The school as a whole makes you feel like you are a part of a family. |
| 12/6/2005 | parent | The quality of academic programs is above average. There is an abundance of extra curricular activities especially sports, such as cheer, volleyball, basketball and football. The school also provides music and art classes. Parent volunteers are encouraged to help out in all areas in the school. |
| 7/26/2005 | parent | I have three children at this school and I am very satisified. There is a high level of academic standards and the children meet the challenge. The children of this school are well behaved and well mannered. A very nice sports program has been put into place and is continuously being improved upon. Parent involvement is very high and is strongly encouraged. |
| 7/26/2005 | parent | I could not imagine sending my kids anywhere else. The is a great catholic environment. Unfortunately you will always find one or two unhappy families. Those are usually the people that are not happy anywhere. The test scores at St. Jeanne's have been above average and I am sure the administrative would share them if asked about them. The school is run by the Sister's of the Company of Mary and we are so fortunate that they have chosen to dedicate their lives to the education of our children. |
| 7/18/2005 | parent | Parent's are very involved. It has a family-like environment and the follow-thru on discipline and religious education is outstanding. |
| 5/4/2005 | teacher | My daughter started last year and although pre-k is not as academic as I'd like it to be, (I take care of that at home)I'm very happy with the warmth and caring environment it has up until now shown to be. There has been many opportunities for parent involvement in pre-k and I feel that she is taken care of and loved by her teachers! |
| 3/25/2005 | parent | My children went here for 4 years until I finally got smart and started listening to them. This is a Catholic school 'in name only'. This is a public school with a public school agenda teaching 'water downed religion' for 45 min a day. The staff puts so much emphasis on making sure the kids are in proper uniform daily than they do with Catholic education. I was in there numerous times trying to resolve issues. This school is very deceiving. The outside of the school looks beautiful because it's fairly new but it's in the inside of the school that really counts. |
| 5/14/2004 | parent | Disregard the review which speaks badly about this school. It is in all actuality one of the most prepared, most respected, and most disciplined k-7 Catholic school in over 12 counties in California. It also had 'awesome' scores! |
| 9/11/2003 | parent | This is NOT a 'Catholic' school. Also the test scores are the lowest in the county! |
