6/1/2012parentI have to say my kids have gone to this school from kindergarten - 8th grade. The last two years with the new principle has been the worst experience ever, not only for me as a parent but for my child. She has her favorite kids- and parents. If you are not on her special list or her office staffs list , then you will be treated like you do not belong! The principle should NOT be a principle of a K-8 school! The first reason is her dress attire!!!! She wears skirts that are way to short and really tight that show a lot and she loves showing off her tattoos!!! If you are going to implement a dress code then show your students and staff that it starts with her.She treats everyone different- rules are rules- She came in and changed our school for the worst. She needs to stop changing our schools traditions that have been in place for long before she got here. I would only recommend the school for the teachers! Just remember, if you have to talk to the principle for any reason at all she does not like it- she assumes that you are questioning her and will treat your child different.. I know this first hand!! Respect is not in her vocabulary..
5/31/2012parentThe principal is that bad. She doesn't look at the over all picture. Very disrepectful to parents.
4/26/2012parentI have to say, I LOVE THIS SCHOOL!!! I grew up here in Tracy and moved away for many years. When I was moving back everyone kept telling me to go to Jefferson School District! (which surprised me considering when I lived here Jefferson School District consisted of....Jefferson!) So when we starting house hunting I would only look in Jefferson. I am so thankful that we moved to the Hawkins district. All of the teachers have been amazing! My only complaint is that Kindergarten in part day. While living overseas my daughter attended a full day kindergarten program and I feel she was much more prepared for 1st grade then my current kindergartener. This has nothing to do with the teachers. I have personally worked with all 4 kindergarted teachers and they are all amazing! But you can only do so much when you have half a day. I am happy that they did decide to extend the kindergarten day for the 2011/2012 school year. I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about this school! I don't ever want to leave! :)
2/20/2012parentMy son will be new at this school for the 2012-13 year. Is the principal as bad as I hear or is it just growing pains adjusting to a new style of leadership? Any feedback appreciated!
8/24/2011parentI am starting to see a pattern....the new principal is terrible. Luckily, the rest of staff is terrific or I would do everything I could to move my child to Jefferson. The main issue I have with her is she is not organized. She sets dates and times for events and then changes them at the last minute. I guess she thinks the whole world revolves around her and her schedule but as a working parent, it is extremely unsettling, not to mention how it dissapoints the children.
8/23/2011parentI strongly agree!!!The new principal is extremely "disrepectful" to staff, students and parents which is ironic considering she promotes the new school rules that state " be respectful, be responsible, and be safe". What a joke. However, the rest of Tom Hawkins staff is awesome!
8/16/2011parentLet me make this clear. My children are all principal honor roll students and never get into trouble. So the theory that only students who do not do well or get into trouble all the time must be the students and parents who do not like the new principal, is completely unacurate. There is nothing to like about the new principal. She is disrespectful and power hungry.
4/20/2011otherI feel sorry for anyone who feels that our new Principal is not fantastic. She holds staff, students and parents accountable. Some people don't like that can't get away with the BS they have been allowed to get away with for so many years. The only people who could possibly feel threatened by this wonderful new addition are those who kids have been been help accountable for their actions up until now. She is bringing the school back to being run by the people it should be run by, not by the few parents who have held court up until now.
4/19/2011parentWe have two children that attend Tom Hawkins. The first has been at the school for 7 years now and our second, for 5 years. We have always loved our teachers and staff and now we can say the same about our new principal. She is tough, and has many rules, but none of which that can be considered wrong for our kids. Those that think otherwise must have the "blameless" children that are getting into trouble. Follow the rules. Life and your actions do have consequences and she is teaching them that.
4/17/2011parentI have 2 kids who attended Tom Hawkins this year, and we have been a part of this school for the last 4 years. I've been very happy with the staff up until this year, and I'm very sad to say that we will not be returning next year. This decision was a very hard one to make, but I will not have my children in such a hostile environment.
8/4/2010parentLast fall we made a huge move across the country and all of my kids attended Tom Hawkins. I could not have been more pleased with our choice. I was very happy with the teachers, the other kids, and all involved in this school. They made our transition as easy as possible and definitely made us feel welcome.
12/16/2009parentI can only say positive things about our experience at Hawkins. I have had kids in every grade and have always been more than satistifed by the education they have received. Worried about the STAR test results? How about volunteering to help in the class? Because of budget cuts, there aren't the teachers aids to work with kids who need one on one help or ESL students. Be a part of the solution!
9/21/2009parentMy son is in Kindergarten. So far we had a very good experience.Ms. Scornaienchi is a great teacher. The school is very safe and clean. This school deserves a better rating.
9/21/2009parentThe administration and the teachers are the best in Tracy by far! The school spirit is unmatched as well.
10/1/2008parentThe kids at this school treated my children as outsiders. My kids were so much happier at their old school in Hayward where everyone was friendly. My daughter told me the kids here are more into acting like they are rich than the family environment she is used to. The teachers don't seem to help in this matter much. The education is okay but nothing spectacular.
8/22/2008parentHawkins is a great school with many talented and caring teachers and other staff. The education is superb with everyone trying to bring out the best in my children. It is a very safe environment.
1/16/2008parentThis school is OK for the site, can not campare to Bay area schools, not mention other states. Most teachers do their jobs like they supposed to.
3/16/2007parentMy 3 children have been going to Hawkins since it opened and I refuse to leave. Most of the teachers and admin have become like family and care for my kids as if they are their own. They prepared my child wonderfully for her first year in high school. We have not had one any bad experiences. Love it!
3/31/2006parentGreat school in a great city. Teachers are very caring and most seem to love to teach. Administration is good. Love K-8 format. Nice neighborhoods nearby with new(er) homes.
3/15/2006parentK-8 is the only way to go! Academicly the school seems to do well. The staff takes extra time to assist the students after school with a program called 'homework club'. This has made all the difference in the world for most children, and it helps the parents out. Since it is a 'country' district the school still has the after school sports program. Flag football, volleyball, basketball are not available in the city districts, but they keep to tradition with the other rural districts in the area. I am pleased with their afterschool activities. The band program is back on its feet after the loss of their longtime instructor, which is another positive. The parent involvement is amazing. A lot of families come together for many events. Lastly, the district is A-1 in my book. I wouldn't want my children attending anywhere else. Staff is wonderfull.
3/12/2006parentGreat school overall. Outstanding saftey and dicipline. Some Teachers inexperienced in the upper grades.
2/22/2006parentWe like it.its a very good school and any parents moving to tracy should head to the Jeffereson School District and avoide Tracy Unified. Jefferson needs to Unify and establish their own High School. Thats the downside.. No High school
1/12/2006parentI find that the child/teacher ratio is not great. I think there could be more after school programs/sports programs/tutoring. I do feel my child is safe. Overall not a bad school.
11/4/2005parentI have a 2nd grader and an 7th grader going to Hawkins. I am pretty pleased so far with the with the 7th grader's teacher and workload. I wish that they changed teachers more than they do before high school. My 2nd grader is learning a lot this year. The campus is very nice.
11/2/2005parentGreat entry 'kinder camp' to get students ready. Great teachers who encourage parent involvement.
10/24/2005parentCertainly very limited in bringing in modern educational theory or technology. A seemingly 'backwards' traditional non-standard based instructional program. Better to send kids to Tracy for modern educational reform.
10/19/2005parentIf you have an opportunity to move to the Tracy school district instead do so. This school and district does not offer much for children under or over the median. It does what it has to and no more. I have been very disappointed overall with the unwillingness to hire outside their own allumni or change their lazy and out dated ways of doing things.
7/20/2005parentThis school is K-8 and fairly new. The portables will be going away soon after the buildings are complete in the back. This school has a huge community feel. Tom Hawkins visits the school and shares history with students. Safe and cozy. Better than most!
2/2/2005parentThe teachers at Hawkins truly care about the children. Both my kids started here in Kindergarten and have had a most amazing time with the teachers and the friends. This is truly a great school!
