2/18/2011parentStudents at the High School this school feeds into says kids from here are woefully prepared for high school compared to the those from other schools that feed in . The school does not differentiate students in language and had to be prodded strongly to provide an accelerated 7/8 math class this year after not having once since they were formed. Many parents of kids more academically inclined are desperately trying to open enroll out or move. It is the principal who drives the lack of academics.
6/2/2010otherThis school has great teachers and the principal is always checking up on the classes. The teachers will help you if you are struggling with something and only want you to succeed in life and school. Manhattan is the only school in the district to be named a No Place for Hate school three years in a row

9/16/2009otherMy grandchildren have received a well-rounded education from Manhattan from a dedicated administrative and teaching staff who obviously love teaching and the children whose lives are impacted by their dedication.
5/3/2009parentManhattan Middle School is the best school I have ever seen. Their standards are very high. My daughter deeply enjoys the school for the arts and projects available. I highly recomend Manhattan Middle School.
3/13/2009parentBoth of my daughters have loved this school. The arts program is fantastic and the IB program is really great. The opportunities they are getting at this school have been wonderful and the principal is very engaged.
1/8/2009parentI couldn't be more pleased with the experience I've had at this school. My 6th grader is happy and engaged in her classes. Dinner conversation often revolves around the cool things she's learned during the day. I've found her teachers to be involved and responsive; a couple I'd consider stellar. The arts focus has surely boosted my child's confidence and self-esteem, and there are a number of art class options to engage just about any interest. Homework is reasonable and fair. I continually see the students at this school tended to with care and respect. The diverse population of students provides a real life cultural experience; an education in and of itself. The best part is the philosophy that they teach the whole child: equally important to the child's education is his/her happiness and well being. I give this school an emphatic A+, and encourage you to visit.
11/14/2008parentAs a parent, I strongly agree with student indicating that Manhattan could have better teachers. However, not having strong teachers is the lack of Manhattan not having strong administration. Given that BVSD has many choices, as a parent, I am choosing to send my child elsewhere next year.
4/21/2007studentI am a student at Manhattan Middle School and am currently in 8th grade. It's definitely not the best school ever and I suggest you look around before picking this school. The kids are really immature and if you want a school that has minimal drama this definitely isn't it. The academics are really good but the teachers are not flexible and will not help you in your learning style, if you can't understand something, too bad. It is definitely a good school but it's more art-focused and i wouldn't recommend it to anybody who is looking for good teachers, because I would say that there are only about 2 or 3 good ones.
1/14/2006parentMy twice gifted son began attending this school in 8th grade and he has had his best year ever. While all of his behavioral issues have not disappeared, the staff here seems to understand and know how to work with him. The Resource room teacher is as much a coach as a teacher and has continually provided a positive, esteem-building relationship with my son. He truly understands his issues and knows how to talk with him in a constructive way when he is getting off track. The drama program is wonderful and engaging for my creative son. There is a block schedule that allows a break mid-week with a late start, and fewer classes per day so that the focus can be maintained on each subject during the day. I am very happy with this school and the support my family has received there.
