10/28/2012parentMy kids have been attending B.E.C.S. for 4 years now. Both of my girls are reading 2 grades above normal as well as 2 years ahead in math. The teachers have added additional learning opportunities to keep my kids interested and challenged. The teachers are very approachable and interested in each of my children. I love the atmosphere of the school and the emphasis on leadership qualities. When I look at kids attending a regular middle school, there is a vast difference in dress and behavior. I feel like I made the right choice for my children in choosing to come to this school.
9/8/2012parentBromley East is a awesome school. My oldest child has attended since he was in kindergarten he is in 8th grade this year. All his teacher know him very well! It is also great to have a middle school that has only about 300 students instead of 1,000 to 1500. All the teachers know the students very well. However they work very hard to make sure student have a true middle school experiences including a separate wing for middle school, sports, and other extra curricular activities. My younger son is n second grade he is in a 1, 2, 3rd grade montessori class. His teacher does a great job.
3/15/2012parentThis school is going through another turnover with administration and frankly, I feel the board of directors needs to bring in a new Principal. While the principal may look good on paper, she does not have the best interest of our children in mind. While I have no doubt this school has some great teachers, we received a Montessori female Kindergarten teacher that is terrible. There is no communication with parents, most of the children are not engaged in the classroom, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the children will be behind going into 1st grade. Parents beware.... There is also a lack of respect at this school across the board. This is evident in the parking lot at drop off and pick up. Parents park in no parking zones and sometimes block other cars in. What are you teaching your kids? Parents...the respect for one another starts at home and then will filters to our children. Our children follow by your example.
10/7/2011parentMy kids started Bromley the last 6 weeks of school in 2011 and we saw a complete turn around in their work ethic and their attitudes towards school. They both love Bromley and would be devastated if they went anywhere else. Mr. Olmsted, 4th grade, is outstanding! My daughter had him last year and I made sure to request him for my son this year. There are a variety of electives for middle school students to choose from and I feel it has really empowered my daughter to try something new. S.T.E.M. is her favorite elective, by far. The teachers give each student individual attention so they know where they are and what kin of help they need. The administration is doing a wonderful job of taking Bromley East to new heights and challenging the students to do the same. We live 10 miles on the other side of town and I wouldn't dream of sending them anywhere else.
2/23/2011parentBECS is an incredible public charter school. I have two children in the school and have had a great experience over the past 8 years of being in the school. The administration changes that were made at the end of the 2009-2010 school year did bring BECS to a new level. Academically the expectations are challenging for my kids, they have brought the school up to date with respect to technology and the added programs have enhanced the "whole child" concept. I would recommend our school to anyone looking to offer their children a great education and enriching environment to learn in.
1/10/2011parentMy daughter is in Kindergarden at Bromley and she has really blossomed so far this year. She had never previously been in any kind of preschool and was extremely shy, but her teacher never gave up on getting her to open up and I was always in the loop on what was going on. We're not allowed to mention names but her teacher is awesome. I would recommend this school to anyone and wouldn't send my daughter or my dog for that matter to the local public school. Bromley is great, no complaints here!
9/30/2010parentBromley has been average since the beginning but now things are looking up. The new adminstration, school appearance, atmosphere, and the changes to the middle school along with new classes/electives have made for huge improvements. Bromley is Soaring to New Heights!
7/3/2010parentPreviously, Bromley had a K-4 principal, a 5-8 principal, and a dean of students. However, the school board has restructured Bromley administration. Beginning with the 2010/11 school year there will be one principal over all the grades and two vice principals. The three previous administrators were replaced with three new and highly experience administrators. Check-out Bromely East Charter School on Facebook, see what is new. (grandparent of student)
3/24/2010parentMy daughters have blossomed educationally thanks to the wonderfully talented elementary staff. I can't imagine them going anywhere else!
12/23/2008parentI have two step-children who have attended BECS for the past couple of years. On the one hand, I'm glad the school challenges the children and gives them homework every night, and I think the teachers they've had have been mostly qualified on the whole. However, their father and I are not even close to being satisfied with the level of communication between home and school, particularly when it concerns incidents that involve his kids (who have had both academic and behavioral challenges), and we end up having to hear about it from the children's mother 2 weeks later or when we check the grades online and it's too late to do anything about either. We've REPEATEDLY requested to be in the loop, both to teachers and principal, since we share custody with their mother pretty equally, but to no avail. They may go to another school next year.
7/13/2008parentMy children have attending this school for 3 years and can definitely say this school is one of the better in Brighton. I removed them from another public school in the area because of the incredibly large class sizes and poor teachers. BECS CORE Knowledge program is fabulous and starting science in kindergarten rather than 5th grade is a definite plus. Yes, there is a lot of homework and the teachers are either wonderful or duds. The principals are mediocre at best but you will find support with many other parents eager to have quality education for their children. If the school would add a few more teachers like TJ Olmsted (4th grade) and a few others like him I would gladly upgrade this review to 4.5 stars.
7/9/2008parentOur son attended this school for the 07-08 school year. After an unsatisfactory year, we decided it would be best to check out Colorado Virtual Academy. Our son took the placement tests and placed 2 years behind where he is supposed to be. I do not recommend this school to any parent who is involved with their child's education. You will find yourself struggling with the teachers, as well as the principal.
1/22/2008parentMy student started at BECS as a kindergartner and is now in the 4th grade. BECS's CORE curriculum is challenging and expects alot out of young students, and most students step up well to this challenge. However, there is ALOT of homework assigned at this school, and it can be a challenge for kids to organize it all. For example, my student failed 3rd grade math simply because he couldn't get assignments turned in on time. Third grade! GT services are non-existent here, as are any special-needs services unless your child has an IEP or 504. As with any school, parents are the best teachers and you need to advocate for your child. We are trying to place our child at another school where the curriculum can be tuned to his individual needs, but until that happens BECS is the best choice for us in Brighton for K-8.
10/10/2007former studentThis is an incredible school! I had my best years at Bromley East Charter school.
9/15/2007parentBECS could use alot more organization, security for children, and a better alternative to an afterschool care program than the one currently in place.
2/13/2007former studentSchool was great, especially compared to FLHS. Enjoyed extracurricular activities very much. First two years of attendance (fall 2001-spring 2003) admin was unorganized and low on disciplinary action. last two years attendance (fall 2003-spring 2005) Admin was overhauled and school was turned around entirely. Kids who failed classes, didn't go onto next grade. which is the way it should be. Never saw a lot of homework at all. A bad attendance record is a students fault not the admins. Parent involvement was minimal at this school unless it was a field trip. 8th grade Class of '05 Student
10/15/2006parentThis is my child s first year at BECS. Thus far, my main concern is with the homework load. I am all for homework, however 5 to 6 pages a night seems a little overwhelming for a child his age.
5/16/2006parentI never could have imagined that my child would have advanced so much in one year. He is a kindergartener and is now reading and writing and counting past 100. Counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. Has made great friends and has a awesome teacher. We love this school!
4/17/2006parentWe are happy with the school overall.
1/26/2006parentOverall, I have been pleased with this school. I feel that the teacher's try their best to help all the kiddos in their classes to strive to do their best. The school offers band to all middle school students, they also offer volleyball, basketball, soccer and track to all 7th & 8th grade students.
10/24/2005parentI feel that the teacher to student ratio is good. I like what they do for the kids.
8/9/2005parentWe did not have a positive experience at this school. Some teachers were not qualified. There was not a cohesive curriculum. We removed my child after trying two years, and when we put her into public school. She was at least a year behind in math content. Luckily, we had a great teacher who helped her get caught up. If you are considering this school, parents should ask a lot of questions about curriculum and teacher qualifications.
10/8/2004parentMy child is doing excellent in Bromley East this year. I think the school has improved over the years. My child started in this school when it first open and their has been some problems with some teachers in the past but this year, the forth grade teachers are all excellent. I do not think much of the Principal and Vice Principal. They treat you like you have no intelligence and you are their staff and they are your bosses. They should respect the parents.
8/23/2004parentThis is my second year at Bromley East. I have been very impressed with the school. The teachers and administration have been fabulous. I do notice when I have heard parents complain, they are the parents that do not participate in any of the activities or fundraisers. If they are concerned they need to attend meetings. If they are not part of a solution, they are only adding to the problems. BECS is a great school. No school is ever 100% perfect, unless they put their child in a bubble. Thanks!
6/9/2004parentMy son attended school here last year. He was challenged in his classes, he did bring home a lot of home work. I didn't think the science projects were handled fairly. His teachers seemed very interested and helpful not only to him but to me in understanding his progress.
5/19/2004parentWe enrolled my daughter in BECS Nov. '03. I have a few concerns with her teachers. The homework is very unorganized she is confused because she does not get the direction she needs from her teachers. I also feel that the administration is very unorganized. They don't care if my daughter is in school or not. I feel that this school has a lot of growing to do, with both the teachers department and the administration department. I think that if more parents were involved to make a difference this school could be a great one. But for now I have to give a low grade for this school.
5/15/2004parentThe new administration of Bromley East Charter School has been amazing. In the past the administration was cold, insensitive, and not responsive. The Superintendent has changed everyone in the front office, secretaries, principal, assistant principal, and director of student services. This 'overhall' was absolutely essential to move the school forward. Last year parents were avoiding coming into the office. Now, the friendly attmospehre, cheerfull approach, and thoughtful aspects associataed with a 'kid/parent friendly' atmosphere is like a magnet. Undoubtedly, it is for this reason the school has waiting lists at many of the grades! Living in the Brighton area and making sure children attended Bromely East Charter School is a great decision. I urge others to take advantage of the great 'choice' curriculum options, safe environment, small class sizes, and stable highly qualified staff.
5/7/2004parentThe school has potential to be outstanding but the school board and administration contiue to run off good teachers.
2/24/2004parentThis is our first year at Bromley. The school keeps us up to date on how my son is doing weekly. No surprises. We know how he's doing, how he's behaving and if he was absent. The small classes are a bonus. Keeping parents involved allows us to guide our child's education. Parents are given the tools and the rest is up to us. My son is doing fabulous and I can't ask for more than that.
2/6/2004parentI have a niece in the charter high school and one at Bromley. The first year was difficult, but then any new endeavor is difficult the first year. Things have continued to improve with every passing year and this year has been the most stable. The CSAP scores show that this school is excellent academically for the kids, as the Bromley students scored second highest in the county, despite it only being the second year of operation. So, evidently the staff is doing something very good. I feel bad for people who can't understand that any school can't be perfect the very first time it opens and that perfection takes time. I've seen Bromley move forward with each step and am more than willing to volunteer in the school any way I can to help them attain their goal of First Comes Learning.
8/20/2003parentThe administration has been more than lacking over the past 2 yrs. Hopefully, with a new staff for 2003-04, including office staff, things might be different. That remains to be seen. It has been permitted over the past 2 yrs. to have regular parents as substitute teachers. I find that appalling, since there is lack of certification and it doesn't seem as if there was a credible background check done; just using glorified babysitters for crowd control.
7/30/2003parentI felt the school had a overall good rating. The problems are with the administration. They continue to change administration and nothing can get established. It is to bad I think the Charter schools could be a great sucess
7/10/2003parent My grandchildren attended Bromley East Charter School this past year. They failed their grades. They had severe attendance problems which were not reported and were allowed to continue. I cannot give the school a good rating because of the lack of concern to notify both parents of the children's school performance and because of the lack of concern for their absences.
