| 4/13/2007 | student | My name is Paulette Wyatt. I am currently a Junior at Killingly High School and have thorougly enjoyed my time thusfar. I am tenth in my class of 215 students and am still climbing the ladder after illnesses and injuries during my career. As a serious and involved student, I commend the teachers and staff of Killingly High School. Honors and Advanced Placement classes have been terrifically successful, as most students have passed the end-of-the-year exam and gotten college credit. The Vocational Agriculture department headed by the well-respected Mr. Doug Butterfield is the top Vo-Ag Department in New England. However, I do admit that the general morale of the school is low, but we are currently taking steps to improve school-wide attitudes, teachers included. I ask you to please not allow preceding opinions influence your pride and faith in Killingly High School. After all, great things really do happen here! |

The students have some of the worse test scores in the state and the town wants to build a new school at the taxpayers expense, as if that will help. We need new administration and teachers, not a new building. |
| 6/9/2005 | student | I feel that KHS is an okay school. I mean yeah we are becoming a stricter school but yeah we need it for our future children. I feel that my 3 yrs at KHS has been really good. Killingly gives you the experience to do what you want. You can have other kids from other towns come in and take Vo-ag. Which by the ways smells horrible. But after looking at the school for 3 yrs the school tends to grow on ya. I mean no one is ever mean to you and everyone is friendly. There is no way i would want to transfer to a different school. KHS can have great things. |
| 4/23/2005 | student | As a freshman, i would like to say i actually was not picked on by any seniors,as i feared when entering the school. This school is a fun school were if you want to be sucessful, teachers try to help you to achieve your goals. This is how i have accomplished being 3rd in my class. Many of my teachers helped me with extra help after school,during class, and in study halls. I have not met a teacher that refused to help me, unlike my grammar school of St. James. The only down side of the school is some of the grading policies such as the new spanish policy that was put in effect, where students that do their homework are not rewarded with extra points on their quator grades. Also, we take a quiz and we get a P or I, which is quite annoying at times. |

The lack of programs and motivation does not lie in the leadership and staff of the school itself, but in the pathetic population of tax payers in this town and the lack of cooperation from the parents of students. My parents motivate me, I do extremely well in school, and am challenged in my classes.. sounds like a good high school to me. I'm sorry that the parents and residents of this town complain and don't want to better their children's lives, but that is not to be blamed on the school itself. And as for the new grading policy, 'gavin,' get a clue. That's not the high schools fault, its the BOE's, who the residents of this town elect directly. |

The threat of KHS losing accredidation this June 2005 is affecting the younger classman's morale. Tuition to a private school is out of the reach of most. Wake up residents of Killingly! |

Unfortunately the 'average Joe' can get lost in the budget shuffle, with art and language classes being cut the potential for college bound students is deminishing. There also seems to be a lack of motivation amoung the general student population. The leadership needs to put more drive back into the staff and students. |
| 7/7/2004 | parent | I would tend to disagree that this school is 'great'. There are the few students who really excell, and then there are the students who fall behind. Expectations must be higher, and at KHS they simply are not. At high school level, there are english teachers who read the books to their students, rather than make the students take the initiative to read them. And they claim that this is because the teachers would rather know that the students have heard the material. Its an excellent lesson in 'you dont need to be accountable for your actions, if you are lazy, we will help you get by'. This is just one example. KHS needs help. They are letting too many students fall through the cracks. Out of my daughter's 30 or so friends from high school, maybe five made it through the first year of college. Lets start promoting excellence,not mediocrity. |
